Collecting myself, I swallowed hard and placed a hand against my small bump. Recalling the words, I joined in shakily at first, then let the magic of it piece me back together.

Our voices grew louder and louder until we were filling the space with our magic, letting it surge with vigor.

At the same time, the shifters moved in, padding through the grass as they circled Keres. They moved with such stealth and quiet wickedness that it even made me fearful of them.

All that despair and anger they felt from the loss of their wolves seemed to hit them at once, and their only focus was the one who took it away from them.

I took several steps back to make room for them, aware that it was out of my hands then. Several hands reached for me as they pulled me closer, and I stood with my coven sisters as a united front.

Some of the wolves snapped and snarled at Keres, but I was too focused on singing to feel any sympathy for her.

The only sign of panic I had ever seen from her was plastered on her face as she remained pinned by us. Even without the salt and ash circle to hold her in, our magic had become so strong that our chanting was all it took.

We sang and moved together like a single beating heart, all determined to ensure the demon never had the chance to harm anyone again. That she couldn’t claim any souls for herself and do what she pleased with them.

The wolves were growing impatient as they taunted her, circling her with their predatory stances. Yet, they didn’t jump in as I had expected.

Instead, as if an unspoken respect was being paid, only one wolf stepped forward.

With light-colored fur accented in deeper tones and a heavy, muscle build, the wolf set its sights on only Keres. At that moment, it was almost like they were the only two beings that existed.

Time seemed to slow despite our constant chanting, and I knew it was nearly over.

With a snarl, the wolf pounced on Keres, its jaw extended wide, and it went for the kill. For her throat.

I looked away as the shifter took Keres down and allowed our chanting to conceal the sound of the demon’s death.

When it was done, and the wolf pulled away, our singing ebbed away, and only silence remained. There was an occasional whimper of an injured witch, but it didn’t take long for others to run to their aid.

I stood there, feeling relieved yet somewhat void from how everything went down.

Unable to take my eyes away from the light-colored wolf, I watched as it walked through the grass and away from the demon’s body. An immediate sense of recognition filled my chest when it looked at me, and I knew exactly who it was.

Meeting his gaze made that old connection snap back into place again, and I was struck by that intensity. Like mending itself fragment by fragment, that connection pulled together and flooded my system with that warmth and security.

It was so overwhelming that tears gathered in my eyes, and I could hardly handle how greatly I needed that feeling—the presence in my chest to remind me Rowan would never be far.

Before I knew it, Rowan had shifted back, and he rose to his full height in the meadow. He looked at me with such love and adoration in his eyes, laced with relief that it was over. He approached, searching my face with the swelling of emotions clear in his features.

That undeniable pull between us was so strong that I couldn’t even find the words. So much was said through our eyes alone that I didn’t feel the need to say anything at all.

Unable to hold back, we collided in a tangle of skin and limbs, gripping one another so tightly that I thought I was going to burst.

I let myself melt into his touch and soak in how it felt to be wrapped up in him.

Rowan had become such a crucial piece in my life that the thought of going another day without him made my stomach ache.

But having him then and there, safe and complete with his wolf inside him, made all the worries and concerns I had fade away.

“I’m so glad you’re safe,” Rowan whispered, pressing a kiss to my head. He gave me a gentle squeeze, then pulled back enough to look me in the eyes. “You were incredible.”

With tears welling in my eyes, I couldn’t believe he was truly there and that his wolf had been restored completely.

“I had to do it for us,” I said, glancing down at my belly as well.

A gentle smile settled on his lips as he put a hand against my cheek. “You took care of everyone. Now, let me take care of you.”

Unwilling to argue, I nodded and leaned into his touch.
