Page 16 of Destined for Him

He’s here.

I find him at the bar, his silvery blue shirt clinging to his broad frame as he orders a beer.

Instantly he stiffens like he can sense me staring at him, and he dips his head, a smile on his lips before he even looks at me.

“Shit,” I mutter, turning and walking into Tommy. “Sorry!”

Tommy shrugs and grins at the two women melting in a puddle before him.

My mom haszerogame, I swear to God. She’s fluttering her eyelashes and checking Tommy out like a jaguar eyeballing its prey.

“Two white wines?” Tommy holds them out, and Mom clasps a hand to her chest dramatically.

Give me a fucking break.

“Tommy Charleston? Is that really you?” Mom coos, leaning forward to dust something from Tommy’s shirt. “My, you’re still as handsome as ever.”

She takes the wine and grins.

“Thanks.”

Caroline lurches forward, pulling Tommy into an awkward hug.

“Tommy!”

He’s still holding her wine and looks confused.

“Caroline. Caroline Henderson?” She gushes, clearly confused as to why he doesn’t recognize her.

God, kill me now.

I’ve almost finished my rum and make excuses to head to the bar where Kevin is.

It’s a stupid fucking crush, and I know it, but I can’t help but be drawn to him.

Yet he’s not interested.

So when I arrive at the bar, I ignore him completely, ordering a double rum and coke this time, hold the ice.

“I’m surprised your mother let you out wearing that.”

My stomach goes crazy, and I mean crazy, with butterflies when Kevin starts the conversation, and not just that; he’s addressing what I’m wearing.

Holy shit.

“What’s wrong with it?” I challenge him, hating how his gaze makes me feel like I’m a slut.

“I didn’t say anything waswrongwith it, Shelby; I just said I’m surprised she let you out wearing it.”

I scowl at him and jut my chin.

“Well, she doesn’t have a say in anything I wear anymore, you know since I’m an adult and all?”

I roll my eyes at him, and he raises his eyebrows, shaking his head.

“You’re still a baby,” he mutters, sipping his beer.

A woman comes from the bathroom beside the bar and does a double take at Kevin. Her eyes flicker to me, and she hesitates, clearly trying to work out if we’re a thing.
