The woman narrows her eyes but doesn’t leave, and I see her making a face at what I’m wearing.

Kevin continues to study me, and the woman sighs with exasperation.
“Can we help you with something?” I snap, noting Kevin’s reaction.
He laughs lowly, his eyes dancing with amusement as the woman scoffs.
“Excuseme?”
“You heard me,” I say, lifting my brows.

“Hey, Shelby,” Mom says from beside me, almost falling over when she sees Kevin. “Ooh, hi!”
Kevin smiles before staring straight ahead like a fish surrounded by hungry sharks.
“Hey,” he says, moving his gaze to his beer.
I hate how uncomfortable he looks.
