Ivy takes it greedily before fixing me with narrowed eyes.

My heart thumps in my chest as she examines me with eyes that have tugged the truth from me more than once, but now I’m keeping a secret from her that I cannevertell.

Never.

Not unless it means something…

“Well?” Ivy clicks her fingers in my face with a scoff of disbelief. “What the hell, babe? You look…sad.”

Her voice softens, and she reaches over, covering my hand with hers.

I force a smile and squeeze her hand.

Ivy is pregnant, and she’s happy. So I can’t upset her with my crap.

“Just tired,” I lie, nodding at her bump. “I can’t wait to meet this little one.”

Ivy beams.

“Me too,” she says with a laugh. “Honestly, I feel like I’ve been pregnant for two years.”

“Not long now,” I say, my smile now genuine. “How’s Melody?”

Ivy tells me how Melody insisted on decorating the room, picking out clothes in almost every color and sizejust in case, and how she has the scan photo pinned on her noticeboard in her room.

“It’s mainly for homework notes and reminders,” Ivy explains. “But now the scan photo is the centerpiece.”

We grin at each other, and I feel a pang of envy and disappointment.

I wish I were pregnant and happy, but I’d never take it away from my best friend. She deserves it.

“And Griffin? Still as hot as ever?” I tease, forcing Kevin from my mind.

“He’s looking forward to seeing my dad,” Ivy says with a wink, and my heart almost stops.

“Huh?”

“Yeah, my dad is coming tomorrow. He’s staying in a hotel because youknowwhat he’s like. I think he thinks all Griffin and I do is fuck, as if we have the time!”

She laughs like she’s not just thrown a grenade at me, and I let out a nervous laugh.

Kevin is coming here?!

But—

“Why isn’t he staying with you?” I blurt out as Ivy frowns.

“We could only offer him the couch as you’ve got the spare room.” Ivy catches my expression and quickly adds, “Which is fine. He likes his own space. Plus, he might meet a woman, so you know….” She makes a face, and I smile faintly, dizziness sweeping over me. My legs tingle, and I swear I’m going to collapse.

I think I’m going to throw up.

“How long is he here for?” I whisper, praying I’m holding it together on the outside because inside, it’s a fucking firework display.

Ivy wrinkles her nose.

“I’m not sure. He didn’t say.” Ivy tilts her head to study me.

“Have you seen much of him?”
