“I told you, I’m fine.”
“Shelby, I’m your best friend. I know you, and I can feel your sadness.”
Ivy prods me, and I have no choice but to meet her worried gaze.
“Is this about Finlay? Because if he’s bothering you, I can tell Dad to—”
“No,” I interrupt her, shaking my head. “He isn’t.”
Finlay has finally got the message because I haven’t heard from him in a few days. The last text he sent told me to fuck off, so hopefully, it meant he was done with me.
“But there’s something wrong,” Ivy says with a frown. “Griff, baby, back me up.”
Griffin looks like a rabbit in headlights, his eyes wide and round over the top of his phone. He’s lounging on the sofa across from us and gulps openly.
“Donotinvolve me.”
“Griffin!” Ivy whines, shooting him a death stare. “Come on, something is wrong.”
“I’m fine, Ivy,” I say firmly, shaking my head. “I guess I’m just a little jealous of you and Griffin. I need a man—I want a baby.”
Ivy laughs, and Griffin rolls his eyes.
“You want a baby? You don’t need a man for that. Plenty of women do it alone.”
I chew on my lip as Ivy and Griffin tell me all about my options—none of which are what I want.
I want a baby, but I want it with one man who won’t ever entertain me, and I’d want him there full-time.
Ihatethat I still feel like this.
“I know that,” I say with a smile. “But I want the family dynamic.”
Ivy nods and strokes my hand, smiling at me.
“Maybe we should set you up on a date.”
Griffin groans and covers his eyes with his forearm.
“There’s nowein this, Ivy.”
Ivy ignores him, sitting up with a wide smile.
“You’ve exhausted the options in Hendrix. Right?”
I can’t deny that.
“So why don’t you stay here?”
Griffin stares at Ivy before chuckling.
“Baby, we’re having ababyreal soon. We have Melody. I doubt Shelby would give up her peace for that. Sleepless nights, anyone?”
Ivy clenches her jaw.
“I meant for a little while longer. The baby isn’t due for another month.”
I consider her suggestion, and excitement pools in my belly.
