I could stay here until I find a job and a place to rent. It’s a city—there must be countless opportunities.

Ivy holds my hands.

“I know you’ve never wanted to leave Hendrix, but I feel like you’re never going to meet anyone or get the life you crave so badly there. Everyone knows everyone, you know?”

“There are always going to be tourists,” I pipe up, watching Griffin glare at me.

Before Ivy got with Griffin, that was how we met men. Sleeping with random tourists occasionally just to scratch an itch.

“That’s hardly going to end in a family,” Griffin drawls. “More like a hospital visit with some STDs.”

I scowl at him, but he shrugs, trying to hide a smile.

“But here?” Ivy grins at me, her enthusiasm suddenly infectious. “You can start afresh.”

“I have thought about it,” I confess as Ivy squeals. “I don’t have any money saved, so I’d have to go home for a little bit before I came permanently.”

“But you could start looking for a job while you’re here, right?” Ivy presses, glancing at Griffin. “And youcanstay here until you find your own place.”

Griffin nods.

“As long as you don’t mind giving up your sleep and living with our children.”

I laugh.

“Thanks, guys, I appreciate it. I’ll give it some thought, but I might take you up on your offer to stay a little longer if that’s okay?”

“Absolutely!” Ivy says, pulling me in for a hug. “This is so exciting!”

It would make sense.

Moving away from Hendrix would mean no more Kevin and no more Finlay. New faces and fresh opportunities.

“You could even study! The possibilities are endless!”

I nod, feeling a flutter in my stomach at the possibilities that lie ahead.

I have no idea what I’d like to study, but Ivy is right; the possibilities are endless. I could get a job that trains me on the side…

And I wouldn’t bump into Kevin.

Part of me is saddened by that, but I have to try to move forward.

What better way than this?

I text my mom and tell her I’m going to stay a few extra days and that I’ll grab the train or the Greyhound home.

Imagine my surprise when my phone rings and my mother greets me with breathless excitement.

“Baby, how are you?”

“I’m okay, are you?!” I laugh when she giggles like a schoolgirl.

“Oh, I’m having the best time,” she says in a playful tone.

I grimace—I don’t want her to elaborate on thatat all.

“But honey, Tommy has asked us to move in with him!”
