Looking into her eyes I say, "Any man who would let you walk away from him was an idiot."

Anyone too blind or stupid to see the beauty and strength she possesses is missing out on an incredibly special person. Raven deserves someone who will treasure and admire everything about her, not just parts of it—whoever he is, he shouldn’t have given up so easily.

Dumbass.

“You think this is funny?” I say, my voice rising. “You think it’s a joke?”

“No,” Ryan replies, his voice low. “I thought you’d like it.”

I shake my head. “Adonis? You really thought I would like going to with him?”

Ryan shifts his gaze to the ground, avoiding my eyes.

“Just tell me why,” I say. “Why did you do it?”

Ryan sighs. “I thought… I thought maybe there was more to Adonis than you were seeing. He’s not the arrogant asshole you think he is.”

I scoff. “How do you know about that?"

He looks over to Betty, who shrugs her shoulders.

"I wanted you to give him a chance. Maybe if you went to the dance with him, you would see another side of him. That maybe he’s not as bad as you think.”

“Look,” I say, “I appreciate what you were trying to do, but you can’t go around playing matchmaker. Especially not with someone like Adonis. I’m the one who has to decide if I want to give him a chance or not. Not you.”

Ryan looks up again, meeting my gaze. He looks so sad and defeated. “I’m sorry. I just thought… I thought it would be nice for you. I know you’re excited about going to the dance.”

“I am,” I say. “But you can’t go around deciding who I should go with. That’s not your job.”

“I know,” Ryan says, standing up. “I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”

He starts walking toward the door, but I stop him before he can leave.

“Maybe… maybe you were right. Adonis doesn’t seem all that bad after having an actual conversation with the guy.”

Ryan turns back to me, a hopeful look on his face. “Really?”

I shrug. “Maybe. I don’t know. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.”

A small smile spreads across Ryan’s face. “I’m glad. I just want you to be happy.”

“I know.”

He gives me a quick hug before leaving the room.. I am still angry at Ryan for what he has done, but I'm excited to be going to the dance with Adonis.

"Well, since it's your fault, you’re taking me shopping."

Betty jumps up off the couch, and claps. "You know I love to shop, let's go!"

I have nothing in my closet that is formal enough and I want to look nice.

Once we make it to the shop, there are many others trying on dresses and shoes. This is my first outing with a guy besides Tim in over ten years. The nervousness sets in. Hell, do I even know how to flirt anymore?

Betty notices my blush and squeezes my shoulder in understanding. She leans in close and whispers: "You don't have to be ready to date to enjoy a nice dance."
