Chapter Thirty-Four

JESSICA

Around six AM the following morning, I heard the bedroom door open. Instantly I shot up when Logan sank onto the bed beside me, groaning.

“Logan,” I whispered, dragging him towards me. “Are you okay? What happened?”

“They let me go,” he mumbled, sliding into bed beside me as I wrapped my arms around him. “I didn’t do any serious damage.”

His body was cold, and I tugged the duvet around us as he buried his head in my neck, his chilly lips dancing over my warm skin.

“I’ve been so worried,” I whispered, snuggling against him as my heart ached with relief. “I’m so sorry, Logan.”

“Why areyouapologising?” Logan muttered, pulling me towards him.

“Because Carlisle is my mess. I’ll speak to him—”

“No, I don’t want you anywhere near him,” Logan snapped, lifting his head to mine.

It was still fairly dark, but I could see his eyes searching mine.

“He’s toxic.”

“Yeah, I know. I don’t like you fighting because of me, though.”

“It wasn’tjustbecause of you.” Logan sighed, turning onto his back and releasing me. “He wasn’t exactly being nice to my sister either.”

“He’s a prick,” I mumbled, moving back to the pillow beside him.

“I need to sleep, Jessica,” Logan said, and my heart dropped when he turned away from me.

“Ok.” I swallowed, fighting back the tears.

I’d missed him so much, and he was turning cold on me?

He turned his head, his hand snaking towards mine through the bed, tugging me against him.

“Can’t sleep without you, though,” he mumbled sleepily, and I curled against him, our legs entwined as he kissed my fingers.

I exhaled my relief, kissing his shoulders as he began to snore softly.

I can’t sleep.

My mind was filled with images of Logan being carted off to the police station and the sight of Carlisle on the floor, unconscious.

This isn’t what I want.

Logan deserves better, and so do I.

My thoughts drifted to Ellie, then to Ellie and Raff, and I fell into a messy abyss of scorned exes and bitter feuds.

I woke up a few hours later and crawled out of bed quietly so as not to disturb Logan. I padded over to the door, tugging it open as I entered Ellie’s room.

She sat up reading but dropped the book onto her lap when I walked in, her eyes wide.

“Logan’s back, isn’t he? I heard him come in….”

“Yeah, he’s back. Are you alright?”
