Ellie nodded, forcing a smile.

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Raff?” I said, tilting my head to the side.

Pain swirled in her eyes, but she shook her head defiantly.

“I don’t want to talk about him, Jess. Is Logan okay?”

“Yeah, he’s just tired. I feelsobad.”

“It’s not your fault my brother has a temper.” Ellie shrugged, patting the bed beside her. “But am I going mad, or did Logan say he loved you yesterday?”

My cheeks flushed, and I couldn’t hide the smile that overtook my face, and she shook her head in disbelief.

“I never thought I’d hear him say that toanyone,” she admitted, looking at me in awe. “But you…youdeserve to be the one he said it to.”

“Ells!” I whispered, tears pricking my eyes.

“I feel like I’ve been such a shit sister.” She swallowed, clearing her throat. “But honestly, I never saw the side of him that you’ve brought out. Like, he’s different around you. He cares, and I didn’t think he was capable.”

I didn’t know what to say, so I smiled, lacing my fingers through hers.

“If he hurts you, though, I’ll kill him.” Ellie laughed, her voice still choked with emotion.

“So will I.” I chuckled as Logan called me from the other room.

“Jessica!”

His voice was tired and gruff, and I met my best friend's eyes as I got up, squeezing her hands affectionately.

“If you need me—”

“Just go, you ninny.” Ellie laughed, picking her book back up as she snuggled down into her bed. “I’ve got Cal Fallon to keep me entertained.” She tapped the Linzvonc book in her hands.

“Well, in that case, I’ll leave you to it.” I grinned, turning back to Logan’s room.

Logan was dozing in bed when I walked in, and he pulled back the duvet without opening his eyes.

“Stop leaving me, woman,” he mumbled into my hair, his arms circling me as he kissed my shoulder. “You’re freezing.”

“I just went to see Ellie,” I murmured, and he grunted. “I think she’s really down about Raff.”

“Not this again,” Logan complained, turning me onto my back so he was on top of me.

His eyes melted me, and I couldn’t help but shiver when he smirked.

“You know I can distract you.”

“I know,” I groaned, and he sighed, his lips hovering over mine.

“That isn’t your problem,” he reminded me, his fingers stroking my jawline softly. “Why are you trying to fix everyone’s problems?”

“I’m not,” I protested, as he raised his eyebrows at me. “Ok, maybe a little, but I’m a fixer. It’s what I do.”

“You’ve got your work cut out with me, fixer.” He chuckled, his eyes searching mine.

“I’m not trying to fix you, Logan,” I said carefully, knowing he could take this the wrong way. “I adore you.”
