“But?”

“No buts,” I breathed, running my hand through his silky black hair. “I want you regardless.”

“Even though I’m a fuck up?” He asked, and for a brief second, I stared into his soul, the real Logan, the one that no one ever saw.

He’s beautiful, but damaged.

But he was the part of Logan I loved the most, the secret part of him that he hid from everyone.

“You’re not, you just don’t know anything else,” I shrugged. “You’re not a bad person, Logan. You’re just hurting.”

“This sounds like therapy bullshit.” Logan rolled his eyes, but kissed me hard on the mouth, yet again saying one thing and meaning another. “But don’t try to change who I am, Jessica. Seriously, thisis who I am.”

“A fighter?” I swallowed, as he nodded. “But the drugs…”

“The drugs help. They help in ways you wouldn’t believe, but you… you’re a pretty damn good substitute.”

His mouth met mine as his fingers slid into my panties, and the thoughts of whether we’d work out or whether he would ever be able to leave his bad boy lifestyle behind him disappeared.

Because either way, whatever his decision, I couldn’t help but love him.

Chapter Thirty-Five

LOGAN

I’d just dropped Jessica off at work and was walking through town when I saw two guys squaring up to each other.

I usually didn’t give a shit, but these two were younger than me and angry as fuck.

Also, it was two in the afternoon.

The crowd of shoppers avoided the two lads, giving them a wide berth as they hurried about their business. I hesitated, glancing around to see if anyone else would step in.

Nope.

The smaller of the lads was the feistiest, jabbing his finger in the other guy’s face, spit leaving his mouth as he hissed at him through gritted teeth.

“I know you’ve been asking about me. So here I am, Cadley; what are you doing about it?Nothing, cus you’re apussy!”

The larger guy clenched his fists menacingly, lunging for him as the pair fell to the floor, meaty fists flying at each other as they scrabbled on the floor.

The larger one had the advantage now and was laying into the youth with a vengeance, walloping him so hard blood flew from his mouth.

“Break it up,” I commanded, stepping in to tug the big guy away.

He was stronger than he looked and was all elbows and rage until I let him fall to the floor, still shouting obscenities at his nemesis.

“Calm down, man, you’re in the middle of town,” I snapped, helping him to his feet.

“I don’t give afuck; he had it coming,” the big boy growled, sticking his pudgy finger in the other direction. “And he’s still got it coming!”

His Nottingham accent was thick, and he had a look that told me he wasn’t playing.

I glanced at the lad behind us to see him stepping back, clutching his side as he sneered.

“Ya lucky he came when he did, Cadley! You wait, man, youwait!”

“Ignore him,” I muttered, turning back to Cadley, who was puce with rage.
