It’s gonna be challenging, and I’m not making any promises, but I want to be the man I think I can be.

The son Mum deserves.

“That’s good enough for me.” Mum smiled, her eyes shining with pride. “You and Jess…is it serious?”

The door opened behind me, and Raff strode in, his hands filled with takeaway bags. Ellie backed away, mumbling something incoherent before disappearing upstairs.

“I got Chinese. Is that alright? Living this new leaf shit, Logan, I even went for a jog today. I feel like a new man,” Raff declared, pulling my mum into a hug.

“I’m so proud of you both,” Mum said, moving away from Raff to grab some plates. “You’re both so lovely. You deserve a nice girl too, Rafael.”

I tore open the chips, and my eyes caught sight of the headlights that told me my girl was here. Heading towards the door, I grabbed a chip to snack on.

“Jess is here,” Raff smirked, biting into a chicken ball. “See you next week, Zander.”

“Shut up.” I scoffed, a goofy grin on my face as I waited for Jessica to get out of her car.

She’s still in her uniform, and she’s yawning. She’s so cute.

“How’s my girl?” I called out, munching on the chip as she reached me, standing on tiptoes to kiss me.

Her lips were soft and warm, and I pulled her bags from her arms, so she could slide her hands around my neck.

God, how I love her.

“Tired,” she confessed, looking up at me with her beautiful eyes. “You okay? Did you tell them about the course?”

“Yeah, they cried, and it was mushy as fuck. But yeah.”

I chuckled, allowing her to walk into the house.

My sister greeted her warmly from the top of the stairs, and Jessica did her best friend shit and went up to see her before joining us back at the kitchen table.

“Jessica.” Raff nodded, pointing at the array of food on the table. “I’ve got so much food, girl, please say you’re hungry.”

Jessica tugged the elastic out of her hair and grinned at my mum.

“Oh, Jess,” Mum whispered, clutching her throat. “He’s so happy, and it’s all because of you.”

“Excuse me? I think you’ll find I played a major part in his happiness.” Raff snorted, pushing the Chow Mein over to Jessica.

Her hair flowed around her shoulders as she threw her head back, a light laugh escaping her throat.

“Sure you did, Rafael.”

I gazed at her, unable to believe she wasmygirlfriend. She was in deep conversation with my mum and Raff, and all I could do was sit there grinning like the cat that got the cream.

Mum called Ellie down, and Raff swallowed hard when she walked in, averting her eyes.

“Want some food, El? There’s loads….” Raff offered, but she shook her head politely.

“No thanks, I’m just going out.”

I frowned, and Jessica bit her lip.

Uh oh.

“Where?” Mum asked, waving her hand at the spread on the table. “We’re celebrating Logan’s good news!”
