I didn’t want him to see my expression, knowing it would be hopeful, almost intrigued.

“Logan? He should be home when we get back.”

“I called him because I didn’t know who else to ask.”

“I know. Logan rang me because he knew I was closer.”

Raff paused as Ellie stirred from her position on his chest. He gazed down at her, stroking her hair back from her face.

“Why did she get so wasted?”

“I’m not sure,” I lied, knowing it was likely something to do with Jay or some other arsehole. “But she needs to be more careful.”

Raff didn’t respond. He stroked her head, gazing out the window as the car pulled up at The Zander house.

“I’ll get this,” I said as Raff nodded appreciatively.

He hoisted Ellie out of the car, lifting her into his arms as he waited for me. I handed the driver a twenty-pound note, telling him to keep the change.

I hurried out of the cab and followed Raff and Ellie towards the house, noticing all the lights were off.

Maybe Logan wasn’t back yet.

The door opened when Raff tried the handle, and he sighed, lifting Ellie into the front room. I flicked the light on and found Logan and some brunette tangled up on the sofa, his head snapping up from the crook in her neck, his eyes locking onto mine.

I wanted to say something, anything, but all I could think was-guys are all the fucking same.

“Let’s get Ellie up to bed,” I mumbled as Logan scrambled to his feet, tugging on his joggers.

The girl held a blanket to her chest, watching him with confusion.

“Logan,” she called out, her voice irritatingly sweet.

“Go to my room. I’ll be up in a minute,” Logan said, barely glancing at her.

The girl gave me a smug smile, pushing past me with the blanket hugging her tiny frame. I focused my attention on Ellie as Raff shot me a grin.

“Well, here he is.” Raff nodded towards Logan, who frowned in response. “Didn’t know he’d be with Jenna, though. Sorry.”

“Oh, it’s fine,” I said quickly. “Let me help you take Ellie up.”

“I’ll do that. You stay down here. I’ll come back in a minute,” Logan commanded, not meeting my eyes.

“Are you talking to me?” I asked coolly, arching my brow at him. “Because I’m taking her up. The only reason I wanted to see you was to tell you thanks for nothing.”

Logan glared at me, his eyes narrowing as he lifted Ellie from Raff’s arms.

“I’ll take her up.”

He pushed past us both, and Raff rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

“I’m gonna go,” he said, glancing back upstairs. “Ellie might need someone with her, you know. In case she’s sick or something.”

“I’ll go up. Thanks for your help.” I smiled as he lifted my hand to his mouth, kissing it softly.

“Hey, anytime. Ellie’s lucky to have a friend like you.”

Steps thundered down the stairs, and Logan appeared in the doorway, frowning at our position.
