Ellie was pulled from my grasp, and I whipped my head around to see Raff tugging her to his chest. His nostrils flared as he glared at the two perverts, and they backed away, mumbling something about ‘not knowing she had a boyfriend’.

Carlisle appeared at my side at once; his arm possessively slung around my shoulders before I shrugged him off.

“Are you her boyfriend?” Carlisle said, nodding at Ellie, slumped against Raff’s chest.

Raff glared at Carlisle before shaking his head.

“No, I’m not. But I’m guessing you’rehers, yeah?”

Nodding at me, Raff lifted Ellie into his arms easily, shaking his head.

“Yeah, I am, actually,” Carlisle boomed back, pulling me towards him.

“Then why didn’tyouhelp them?” Raff snapped as Carlisle moved forward, clenching his fists aggressively.

“Fuck you. She’s not my responsibility!”

“Urgh, Carlisle, I’m going to help him get Ellie home,” I seethed, pushing Carlisle away from me.

“You’re not serious? You’re leaving with another guy?”

“Carlisle, grow the fuck up. Ellie needs me.”

I threw my hands up in exasperation as the two gym heads stared at me blankly from behind him.

“Go home with yourmates. They’re clearly more important than I am.”

Not wanting to hear his response, I turned on my heel, ducking under Ellie’s arm to help guide her down the stairs.

“That’s yourman, huh?” Raff huffed, who appearedmorethan capable of carrying Ellie alone.

“Yep,” I grimaced, avoiding Raff’s gaze. “He’s not…entirely helpful.”

“You don’t say? What would’ve happened if I wasn’t here?”

I didn’t want to think about that.

I pressed my lips together as Ellie started hiccuping. Her head rolled forward as she giggled uncontrollably, and an amused smile crossed Raff’s lips.

“You drank a bit too much tonight, gorgeous,” he mumbled, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, trying to pull his head down to hers. “Come on now, let’s get you home. Jess, flag us a taxi. Those legs have a better hope than me of getting one.”

I flushed at his compliment and returned his smile. Then, I stepped towards the road, holding my hand out.

This was embarrassing. I felt like I was on display.

A taxi slowed, and the window rolled down to reveal a man with a lascivious grin.

“Alright? Need a ride?”

“Yes,” I said, reaching around to open the back door for Ellie and Raff as the man’s grin faded. Raff deposited Ellie into the back, leaving the door open for me to climb in beside him.

“Where to?” The taxi driver grumbled, scowling in the rearview mirror.

Raff gave Ellie’s address, and I pressed myself to the door, conscious of how close my thigh was to Raff’s. He smelled faintly of whiskey and cigarettes, but there was also a woody scent that was oh-so-alluring.

No wonder Ellie raved about him.

“Where’s Logan tonight?” I asked, gazing out of the window.
