“I told you I’m not interested,” I repeated, despite thinking back to the way Jessica felt against me.

I knew she wasn’t trying to seduce me when she danced like that; her touch was soft and gentle as she swayed to the music.

I’d watched her dancing before I walked up behind her, convinced she would tell me to fuck off. She was a natural, but the best part was her smile, the way she looked almost… free.

“Alright, man. Ellie said Jess is meeting cuntybollocks tomorrow.”

“Good for her,” I chirped, trying to push the thoughts of fucking Jessica out of my mind.

But that is the problem; it’s all I can think about.

I bet she’s sat upstairs, texting her cunt of a boyfriend whilst I was down here with a hard-on with her name on it.

I focused on the film, my fingers tapping against the arm of the sofa, when Raff started to snore, deafening me.

“Fuck’s sake.” I groaned, throwing a cushion at his head.

It’s pointless.

When drunk, the boy was like a drugged rhinoceros, and nothing could wake him.

I couldn’t hear the film, so I shut it off, wondering what to do with myself. I checked the time.

Two am.

I’d only had a line, so I wouldn’t be up all night.

Goddamn, Jessica distracted me so much that I had some leftovers, whichneverhappened. I pushed open the back door, sinking to the bottom step as I lit a fag, staring at the stars.

My old man used to tell me that even stars couldn’t live forever and that if you watched them closely enough, sometimes you’d see them fall from the sky.

Stupid fucker.

Inhale.

Exhale.

My body relaxed, and I leaned against the doorway, my gaze falling to the shed at the back of the garden. I knew it was full of junk and shit, but no one opened it after Dad left because it was his junk and shit.

Maybe I should burn it, save Mum a job. I flickered my lighter a few times, the crazy idea growing in my mind as I stared at the shed.

A noise behind me made me turn, and I swore I was seeing things.

Jessica was in the doorway, her hand blindly fumbling for the light switch.

In tiny shorts and a vest.

“Hey,” I said softly so as not to scare her.

“Jesus!” Jessica gasped, clutching her chest breathlessly. “What are you doing? It’s freezing in here.”

She rubbed her arms, glancing around the kitchen with a frown.

“You’re not wearing much,” I pointed out, nodding to the kitchen chairs surrounding our old table. “My hoodie is on there if you want to put it on.”

“I just came down for a drink,” Jessica mumbled, standing awkwardly in the doorway.

I nodded, turning back to the shed.
