“She saidno,” a familiar voice growled and Logan emerged from the darkness.

Oh, thank god. Thank god!

My heart pounded as he dragged Carlisle away, shoving him in the chest with both hands.

“Logan?”I whispered, my eyes filling with tears. “It’s fine, don’t—”

“Listen, you little prick, this hasn’t got anything to do with you. This is between my woman and me.” Carlisle pointed a finger in Logan’s face, his lips curling into a snarl. “Now fuck off.”

I stepped forward, stopping when Logan drew his fist back, smashing it into Carlisle’s stunned face.

“Oh my God!” I whispered, but Carlisle jumped back like a coiled spring, his fist aiming for Logan’s face.

Logan was surprisingly quick, ducking to avoid the punch but smashing another one into Carlisle’s ribs, causing him to groan as he fell to the floor.

“No,youfuck off,” Logan said, his chest heaving as he clenched his fists, teeth gritting together. “Now.”

Carlisle got up, his bulk awkwardly hindering him as he did.

“Bad decision, boy,” he muttered, shaking his head. “You can have the fat bitch.”

Shame flamed my cheeks as hot tears filled my eyes.

Is that what he sees me as? No wonder Logan doesn’t want a relationship with me.

Logan stared at him, tilting his head to one side as he laughed.

“Man, you’re fucking ugly. Bye-bye now.”

“Don’t you come crawling back to me, Jessica; I won’t touch you again.” Carlisle threw at me before storming away into the night.

I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding, my body aware of the icy cold air around me. My cheeks burned with humiliation, and I couldn’t even look at Logan.

“Jessica,” he said, panting slightly. “Open the door.”

I went to do as he said, turning to jam my key in the lock, but it fell to the floor as I cursed, tears streaming down my face.

“Shit!”

I fell to my knees, fingers scraping the tarmac as my shoulders shook, the weight of the world preventing me from standing. Hands wrapped around my shoulders, a voice close to my ear.

“It’s okay,” Logan murmured, reaching down to pick up my keys. “I’ve got you.”

I don’t want him to touch me; my shame owns me in every capacity.

I’m hideous.

Carlisle hates me, and he’s going to cause havoc for Logan.

Logan doesn’t deserve that.

Logan slammed his shoulder against the door, which opened with ease as he guided us in. He locked it behind us and tilted my chin up to gaze at me.

“Did he hurt you?” He asked gruffly, his eyes searching mine as his thumb stroked underneath my chin.

“I’m… I’m…” I tried to apologise, but an ugly cry gripped my voice, and I dropped my head as I sobbed, tears seeming to come from not only my eyes but my nose, mouth—everywhere.

“Shh, come here.” Logan pulled me close to him, his delicious scent that usually made me feel so safe failing to calm my senses. “He’sgone, Jessica.”
