“Bye.”

I hung up, tossing my phone to the floor as I turned back to Jessica.

She’s even more beautiful in the morning, her eyes swollen from sleep, her lips all puffy and sexy.

“I’ve got to go to work today,” she groaned, dropping her head into the pillow.

God, her voice is husky as fuck.

“Where’d you work?” I asked, studying her.

“Just in a supermarket in town. I’m studying at college, so it’s just something to keep me going.” She shrugged.

“College girl, huh?” I smirked, tugging her close to me. She kissed my lips softly and tugged the duvet around us.

“Something like that.”

“What are you doing? A-levels?”

She nodded, yawning.

“Yeah.”

“You wanna go to uni?” I asked, genuinely interested.

“I don’t knowwhatI want to do; I’ve always been interested in business… but then I love things like wedding planning and stuff. I love the thought of planning someone’s happy ever after.”

Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes animated as she gazed at me.

“I’d love to have my own business one day. It’s a lot of work, but… I think I can do it.”

I stroked her face, gazing at her eyes as I drew her close to me. Her legs entwined with mine, and I closed my eyes, enjoying the feeling of her body.

I loved her ambition. It showed what a decent upbringing could give you and what doors it could open. Whereas I was heading down a route of destruction and chaos, this girl had it all planned out.

“What about you?” Jessica asked, interrupting my self-reflection session.

“What do you mean?” I turned to her, my fingers running through her ink-black hair drifting down her back as she shuffled closer to me. “Don’t start that dream bollocks again.”

“What do you want?”

“A blowie?” I said hopefully, and she rolled her eyes.

“Logan, be serious.”

“I’m not like you, Jess. I don’t have ambitions like you do. I just wanna survive.”

Her eyes softened, and she stroked the side of my face, her brow furrowing. It’s clear that what I’d said didn’t settle well with her.

“Survive, babe?” She said, tilting her head to me.

“Yeah. Just get by, you know? I just wanna get by.”

“What about when you’re older? You must want to do something—”

“I don’t want to study or work for a living traditionally. Can you imagine this boat race serving you food?” I pointed at myself, and she laughed, shaking her head.

“You’re fucking gorgeous, and you know it.”
