And she can reach parts of me that had been closed off for years.

She knows every single part of me now. Her soul brushes against mine, my feelings a giant flashlight for her to notice, and so there’s no way to hide my darkness from her.

I don’t even try anymore.

It’s perfect.

“We stopped at a petrol station,” I say, quietly. “We were running low and still had a decent drive ahead of us. She was tired, and her feet were aching, so she stayed in the car whilst I got things sorted. I paused whilst inside the shop to grab her some snacks, and then I felt pain hit me. It took me a few minutes—at the time it felt like hours—to stabilise myself, and when I found her, she was bleeding out. The hunters took off, and I lay there as she died, as my son died.”

“Do you remember hearing anyone around?” Devoss asks.

I nod. “There were two of them that I heard. One was familiar, and I would recognise his voice if I ever heard it again. He’s got to be one of the remaining four names because I’ve not encountered him yet. The other had a familiar accent, but I couldn’t smell anything. He was using a scent neutraliser.”

“Suspicious,” DEvoss murmurs.

“What’s suspicious?” I demand.

“I suspect there’s someone in the pride that was working against you,” Devoss says. “I’ve got a few suspects, but I’ve not yet narrowed it down. But with the information Malachi and Micah have gathered, and my own information, I do know a few things for certain.”

“What?”

“Lainey was never taking you to a pack, Cevon,” Devoss says, quietly. “She was a hunter, and she was going to either recruit you, or let you be murdered.”

I sigh, trying to hold in the anger from my lion. “Lovely.”

“And I think she was killed because she was pregnant,” he says. “Although, the proof for that one doesn’t exist.”

“Where does the spy come into it?” Atticus asks.

“Well, a hunter showed up asking questions about someone called Cevon, and wanted to know if we’d seen him around,” Devoss says, and my eyes widen. “He’s dead, and own’t be returning, but his phone had some interesting secrets contained within.”

“He received a tip from someone here,” Micah says. “I don’t know who, the phone has since been deactivated, but we managed to locate it to the pride. Even worse—someone at Legal Pride.”

“Fuck!” I roar, echoed by Atticus.

Nora frowns. “I don’t understand. Someone at Legal Pride is a spy... for who?”

“Not a spy, Nora,” I say, gently. “A hunter.”

“And one who likely tried to hurt you,” Atticus adds. He turns to me, with a furious look in his eyes. “It’s time that you let us in on everything you know about the hunters, because once we find this mole, we’re taking them all out.”

“I hear you,” I say, standing tall. “I wanted revenge for Lainey, but fuck that bitch.”

“Yes!” Mal hollers, and even Orson cracks a smile.

“But my son was murdered because his mother was a traitor,” I say, cracking my knuckles. “It’s time to finish this shit.”

“And what happens once it’s over?” Nora asks, meeting my eyes.

“We live happily ever after,” I murmur, pressing a soft kiss to her knuckles. “Because after all... Happiness is Earned.”

NORA

I rub my hand over my tummy, hoping like hell that soon enough, a baby bump will start to develop, as I look around at the men standing here with me in the clearing.

Atticus, my strong Alpha, who runs this pride with acre and empathy—traits I love about myself. To his left, is my other lion mate, Atticus’s younger brother. Cevon is the strongest man I know, having lived through horrors most of us couldn’t even imagine, and he made it through the other side.

Orson, the dependable bear, the one who helps me thrive day after day. He makes sure my needs are met, my safety guaranteed, and he looks hot as fuck whilst doing it. On the floor at his feet is Micah, the man I call my best friend. He’s funny, cheeky, loveable, and he’s the one who knows me the best.
