Page 253 of Survival is Hard

Griffin is the one who helps me figure myself out. His strength is obvious, his rarity would make him a commodity, but he’s the most humble person I know, preferring to use his wisdom to support me and the rest of our pack.

Speaking of a support system, is the fox. Voss grew up without one, and has struggled for years to build meaningful relationships because of it. And yet, from the moment we bonded, he’s been a surprising pillar of support for me, and the other members of our little pack.

Which leaves, Malachi. He’s the one who constantly pushes me out of the box, who challenges me to be a better version of myself, but not in the traditional sense. Malachi wants me happy, and loved, and he’s willing to cut any single person who gets in the way of that.

All seven of my mates are strong, dependable men, who have changed my life for the better.

A year ago, I’d never have imagined this kind of life for myself. Healing isn’t linear, that’s something I’ve really come to understand.

I have my good, days and my bad days, but overall, I am improving.

Four months ago was when everything changed for the better, even if I didn’t realise it at the time.

Back then, my mind was my enemy. My wolf was the reason why. I struggled to hold on, I struggled to survive.

When you’re as ill as I was, death is the easy option.

When you’re recovering, survival is hard.

When you’re whole, you learn that happiness is earned.

I’m whole now. It’s time to earn my happiness.

“What’s on your mind, little cub?” Orson asks, and I turn to smile at him. He’s wearing a pair of jeans, his shirt sleeves are undone, and pushed to his elbows, so that my mark is clear as day on his arms. I love seeing them, and it’s the only reason I’m sad about the ones that have to stay covered by clothing.

Cough, Devoss and his perfect dick, cough.

Like me, Orson’s obsessed with the idea that we might have a baby growing inside me, and his large hand immediately tubs my small stomach as I walk closer to him.

“Nothing,” I say, truly meaning it.

“You don’t smile like that for no reason,” Atticus says, raising an eyebrow at me. My Alpha mate is a lot more relaxed since we’ve bonded, since he’s made up with Cevon, and it’s something I’m truly grateful for.

I shrug, and repeat what I was thinking about, about how happy I am to be alive. My men shudder, well all of them but Voss and Cevon. Those two carry their own darkness, and it allows them to understand where mine comes from.

“I like that,” Cevon says, and I smile at him. “I thought my happiness was taken from me because I didn’t earn it.”

“That’s ridiculous,” Atticus interjects, but both Cevon and I ignore him. This is a moment for us to bond over our shared demons, not for Atticus to try and protect his brother.

“But I’m glad I was given a second chance,” he murmurs, and I grin at him. He offers me his hand, and after letting Orson kiss my stomach, I take it. Cevon adjusts me so I’m comfortable under his arm and he kisses my bare shoulder. “So, little darkling, are you ready to earn your happiness?”

I nod, and kiss his jaw, as I look around at all of my mates. We’ve got identical grins on our faces, all of us ready for the final stage.

“What’s that?” Micah asks, and I turn to the direction he’s pointing at, seeing nothing out of the ordinary.

“Nothing,” I say, turning back to him, and my jaw drops.

All seven of them are down on one knee, a ring box in Voss’s hand. My hands fly to my mouth, as tears immediately stream down my face.

“We’ve not even asked yet, little warrior,” Mal says, causing Voss to snort.

“Nora Hart, you’re the strongest woman I know,” Atticus says. “Your empathy, your kindness, your resilience and your beauty are the things I love most about you. But most of all, I love that you’re mine.”

“That was not the approved message,” Cevon snaps, glaring at his brother. “We had a fucking plan.”

“Nora, your teeth marks are etched into my dick, and I think it’ll be hard for me to find a new mate,” Voss says, his green eyes twinkling as Cevon growls. “Looks like you’ve got to be mine, forever.”

“Nit the approved message,” Cevon hisses, kicking the fox next to him with a glare on his face.
