“Are you blind?”

“No, I’m not going to hold onto something that’ll never happen,” Melody sighed, shrugging her shoulders. “I'm a walking nervous wreck. How the hell could he want me? He's already got one kid to take care of. He doesn't need a grown woman who can't handle a little life breaking down at his feet.”

“You know what you sound like?”

“You're going to tell me, regardless. Do I need a drink?”

“Mel, not every guy you meet is going to be an asshat like Jason. Don’t you think you deserve someone who'll love and respect you?” her tone shifted. “Someone you don't have to beg to love you.”

“I don't know what it's like.”

“It's the little things, the things he does without a second thought but knows you.”

Like muffins from her favorite bakery came to mind.

Melody shook her head in disbelief, rolling her eyes at the thought. She couldn’t delude herself into thinking there could be anything more between her and Wes than the friend-boss-worker-relationship they had now.

Except friends don’t tie each other up and force orgasms with their tongues.

Melody bounced her leg under the table. She wasn’t good at keeping secrets, but whatever was going on with her and Wes was for them to figure out before adding anyone else to the mix of opinions.

“Sprinting across a sex club comes to mind.” Lexi crossed her arms and leaned against the tree, grinning from ear to ear. “That was some scene the other night.”

“Oh yes, I enjoy nearly dying and panic attacks.”

“I don’t mean that. I’m glad you’re okay and because you are, I’m going to tease you about the man who tore through the club to get to you.”

“He’d do the same thing for any of us.”

“I don’t want him showering with me!” Noah teased into the conversation.

“Wes was in full-on Daddy mode the other night.” Mia looked at her knowingly.

“I. We. It’s not,” Melody sputtered. “He doesn’t see me that way! I handle the books, babies, and bondage furniture.” How she was able to say that with a straight face after her last session, she didn’t know.

Noah wrapped his arm around Lexi’s waist. “If he ever finishes that horse he’s working on–ow! My ribs, Lex. What?!”

“Don’t scare her off!”

“Can’t get off something I’m not on,” Melody remarked, pointing at her friend.

“I’m just sayin’ that he has a wicked mind when it comes to sexual oddities.”

“It’s just work, we’re friends and I’m grateful for his help.”

“There are many things a man who works with his hands can do,” Lexi smiled coyly. “I’m just saying that sometimes you’ve got to make the first move.”

“Lexi, you’re going to get her into trouble!” Mia pointed out.

“I know! What’s the problem?”

“Sounds like a round of spankings instead of drinks,” Noah grinned, pulling Lexi away from the table. “I’m calling it. Work abandonment.”

“Make the move!” Lexi shouted over Noah’s shoulder heading to the main house.

They laughed as the married couple disappeared.

“Listen, Melly,” Julia grabbed her arm, pulling her attention. “You know, you’re one of the most confident women when it comes to work. I wish you would apply that to your personal life. Grab it by the balls and stake your claim.”
