Connecting the call, I said, “Hey, George. How’s Trip?”

“I’m not calling about Trip, King,” George Steiner, Frank’s older brother, carefully said as the hairs on the back of my neck tingled. “It’s Sugar. An ambulance just brought her in. It’s bad, King. Get here fast.”

Before I could say anything, the line disconnected.

Shit.

Looking around the backyard, I spotted Frank and rushed over to him.

“Where is Enigma?”

“Left before the party. Why?”

“George just called. Bastard found Sugar. It’s bad.”

“Callum!” Gunner shouted, making me turn as the merriment around me immediately ceased.

“What?”

Gunner’s face was pale as he looked at the others before looking at me. “Callum, Mike called. It’s Enigma.”

“What about him?”

“Mike just arrested him for murder.”

“What?” Pyro shouted as the brothers all gathered around.

Gunner nodded. “Not lying. Mike said he was called to Sugar’s place. Said it’s a fucking mess. Paramedics rushed Sugar to the hospital. John Stanley is dead. Enigma admitted to killing him.”

“Fuck!” I shouted, running my hand through my hair. “Okay, Scribe, get your ass over to the sheriff’s station. See what you can do, and tell Enigma I said to shut the fuck up. Make damn sure he doesn’t say shit to anyone. Not even Mike. Take Banks and Hawk with you.”

“Hawk is with Trip at the hospital,” Scribe stated. “I need Pyro. He and Banks can help me keep Enigma calm.”

“Priest. You and I are going to Sugar’s place. I need you to do your thing, brother. I know I promised you, you would never have to do it again, but I’m asking. For Enigma,” I asked, looking at my brother, who said nothing before he reluctantly nodded. “Thank you, brother. Gunner, call Gator and the Bourbon Kings. Tell him what’s going on. He can let Sugar’s parents know. Then head over to the hospital and protect Sugar. Take Frank with you.”

“What if they ride?”

“Then they ride.”

“Callum,” Bailey whispered, tears shining in her eyes as she looked up at me. “What can we do?”

“Cupcake, I need you and the ladies to stay here. I can’t take care of Enigma if I’m worried about you girls running wild. Promise me you will all stay here.”

“I promise,” Bailey sniffed.

A short time later, Priest and I pulled up in front of Sugar’s house to find it swarming with police. Parking, I got out of my truck when Mike walked over to greet me.

“Fuck, King,” Mike sighed. “It’s really fucking bad. I didn’t have a choice. Enigma admitted everything in front of everyone.”

“Where is the body?” Priest asked, staring at the house.

God, I really hated this for Priest.

The quiet brother, Priest, kept mainly to himself. A devout Catholic Priest who spent most of his days either working out on the obstacle course, exercising to rid himself of his many demons, or volunteering at the church. Unlike the rest of my military brothers, Priest’s background was classified. Not only because of his time in the military, but so he could live in peace.

The son of a serial killer, Shaw ‘Priest’ Dalton, spent his life atoning for his father’s sins. As an R.O.T.C. college graduate, the FBI stayed his military commitment and recruited Priest because of his specific set of skills. What only a few people knew was that Shaw Dalton had the ability to view a crime scene and mentally catalog everything, formulating the correct series of events. It was a gift that the FBI utilized until a copycat brought his father’s crimes back into the public eye. After the FBI apprehended the killer, Priest handed in his badge and the military swooped in, demanding he fulfill his commitment. Assigned to my unit, the military gave me his full military jacket and ordered me to use his skills to find and apprehend terrorists.

It was the only order I ever disobeyed.
