“Yes.”

“Good,” Benjamin said, releasing a deep breath. “You gonna marry my mom now?”

“You okay with that?”

“Only if I can call you Dad.”

Choking up, I nodded. “I’d really like that, Benjamin.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Potter? My name is Matthew Law. I’m here to escort you and the boys to the clubhouse.”

“Why? John’s dead. Can’t we stay at the house?” Mrs. Potter asked worriedly.

“No, ma’am. The clubhouse is the safest place for you and the boys.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Gail,” Mr. Potter interjected. “Please take the boys and go with Mr. Law.”

After hugging the boys, I said nothing as Matthew Law escorted them and Sugar’s mom out of the room, along with several of the brothers from the Bourbon Kings. Gator, King and Mike Brewer stayed in the room to talk with Jim Potter.

“Alright. Tell me,” Mr. Potter asked, looking at me. “This isn’t over yet, is it?”

“No, sir,” I admitted.

“Mr. Potter.” Mike stepped forward. “All we know right now is that Enigma, King, and your daughter’s name were on a list that was delivered to me the morning of John Stanley’s death. His name was also on the list. We believe it’s a hit list.”

“I see.” Mr. Potter sighed, then looked at King. “The club taking care of this?”

“Yes, sir, and I’ve called in a few others.”

“My grandsons in danger?”

“We don’t believe so,” Mike cautiously stated as the tension in the room ratcheted up several degrees.

“Gator?”

“Yeah, Uncle Jim.”

“You boys bring your fishing poles?”

“Yeah.”

“Good. It’s time to go fishing.”

Gator, the president of the Bourbon Kings, grinned wickedly as he turned and walked out of the room and Jim Potter started to follow, only to stop at the door before turning to look Mike square in the face.

“No disrespect, Mike, but this is a family matter now.”

Without another word, Mr. Potter left.

“What the hell does that mean?” Mike questioned, looking from King to me as I tried to hide my smirk.

“It means this is now club business.” King smiled, crossing his arms across his chest.
