“I read this fact on the way over here. It made no sense.”

“What fact?” I asked, bracing myself.

I never knew what was going to come out of this kid’s mouth.

It was anyone’s guess.

“The fact said that adults are probably spanked more than children.”

Lidi spewed water across the table.

Skylar closed her eyes and groaned.

Patrons near us chuckled.

“What does that mean? Does Pyro spank you, Sissy?”

Frank looked at me, eyes wide, while I fervently shook my head when we all clearly heard, “This place should have never let that trailer trash in here. People can’t even have a decent meal in public anymore.”

Thank you, Cameron Hobbs.

I knew if I just gave the little guy some leeway and time, he would open his mouth and give Lidi the segway she needed, because as soon as Lidi heard the bitch spew her filth, the good doctor of Rosewood piped up for all to hear. “What’s that saying, Jane? You can take the ho out of the trailer park, but you can never take the trailer park out of the ho. Because if memory serves, your family lived in Mr. Munson’s mobile home park before your dad’s start-up hit it big.”

“We never lived there!”

“Oh, come on, Ms. Jane,” Mr. Munson himself spoke up. “You know I loved having you around, but you got too big for your britches, girly, when your dad moved you all into that big, fancy house.”

“Gotta have a big butt to wear big britches, Mr. Munson. That lady has no butt,” Cameron added, leaning on the table to look at Jane.

The restaurant erupted in laughter.

My God.

I loved this kid.

This was the best night ever!

Chapter Twenty-Six

Scribe

Irish Rose Tavern, the next night,

“What can I get you, lovely ladies?” I grinned, leaning over the bar.

“That smile isn’t gonna work on me, Scribe.” Jess laughed.

“Oh, I don’t know.” Granny winked. “Seems to be working on me.”

“I agree, Martha.” Mrs. Cohen blushed. “Scribe does have a devilish smile.”

“Yeah, I do,” I drawled smoothly as both women giggled.

Jess rolled her eyes while she looked around the bar.

Since Mrs. Cohen apologized to Sugar and the rest of the club, it was like a tremendous weight had been lifted off the woman’s shoulders.

She was happier, more personable, and actually very funny.
