He supposed Egan’s laid-back nature was perfect for a new dad because Blake seemed more nervous.

“I bet he’s got some crazy name picked out,” she said. “Still no idea?”

He knew but was sworn to secrecy. “They said they need to lay eyes on him before they decide to know if it’d fit or not. Besides, I think he’s worried there was a mistake with the ultrasound.”

Grace laughed, her long black hair that was floating past her shoulders swished around while she put her headset on and buckled in.

Once she was set, Lincoln started to flip switches and get the bird up in the air.

Grace didn’t talk again until they were flying toward Boston. He could do both, talk and fly, but he liked that she gave him time to get set.

“Is Egan worried that Blake might make him paint the room pink before the baby can go in there?”

“No,” he said. “He said he’s keeping it blue even if it ends up being a girl.”

“Just like if he painted it pink, he’d keep it if it was a boy?” she asked. “I could see Egan doing that.”

“Yeah, he’d think it was funny and it’d drive Blake nuts.”

He’d heard all about how Egan won the room color when Blake wanted to keep it neutral. Some silly competition of who could get a squirrel to take a nut out of their hand first.

There were some things he just didn’t ask because he didn’t want to know the answers as to why it was even happening.

“With any luck they don’t have to worry,” she said.

“Most likely not.”

“With everything going on, I hate that you’ve got to fly me back in a few hours.”

“No worries. It worked out. As soon as we land, Blake’s dad should be waiting for me. I’m going to grab him and bring him back here. They waited to let him know until she was further along.”

“How long has she been in labor?” she asked.

“No clue,” he said. “I just know Egan brought her at five this morning when she finally told him she was having contractions.”

He was sure Egan wasn’t thrilled about being kept in the dark. He knew he’d be pissed off if it were him.

“Hopefully there will be a baby soon,” she said.

“Not too soon since Conrad wants to be there.”

He’d do everything he could to make that happen for his best friend.

He’d known that Blake didn’t have the best relationship with her father when she moved here over a year ago. The fence had been mended and Egan said he’d run to get Conrad himself to make it happen.

No way he was letting his best friend leave Blake’s side for anything.

Between him, Roxy, their other full time pilot, and, Rob, their part time one, he’d managed to get all the flights covered for the rest of this week. Egan wasn’t allowed to show up at the airstrip until Monday.

Six days with his wife and child. Orders from his mother.

When Janet Bond put her foot down, everyone listened.

Himself included. She’d told him she’d hold him responsible if Egan attempted to work.

He was as scared of her as he was his own mother.

“Knowing you,” Grace said, “you’ll get him there on time. Maybe I’ll be one of the first to know about the birth by the time you get me later. Sorry about all the going back and forth.”
