She had no plans on talking about it. To her she was just another chef in the competition and nothing more.

An employee who got a weekly check.

Which she did. End of story. No one needed to know the rest during the competition.

Once it aired though, then it’d come out, but she’d be back home in her comfort place.

“Whatever happens does,” he said.

“Your biggest job is to keep me calm,” she said, grinning. “Think you can do that?”

“I’m going to give it my best. Tell me what works the best.”

“Sex,” she said. “Give me lots of that to keep my mind off the rest.”

“Sweet,” he said. “This is absolutely turning out in my favor.”

The two of them joked the rest of the ninety-minute flight until he was landing on his parents’ farm.

The house was quaint in her eyes. She saw the barn, nothing big but well-maintained.

The gardens were larger than she expected too.

“Wow,” she said. “Those have to take a lot of work.”

“They do,” he said. “My mother loves it. Before we go in, she’s worried about cooking for you.”

“What?” she asked. “Why?”

“Because you’re this big chef and she’s a home cook.”

“Please,” she said. “It’s your mother. And I’m not a snob.”

“I told her not to make tuna noodle casserole,” he said.

She started to laugh. “That was mean.”

“I saw your face when I told you about Egan’s reaction to it in the microwave.”

“Listen,” she said. “No fish smells good in the microwave.”

“It does if you like to eat it,” he argued.

She rolled her eyes and they got out together. They’d be flying back later today. Just a day trip.

She was never one that liked traveling for the whole day, but flying in the helicopter wasn’t the same as being in the car and worrying about traffic or delays.

This was relaxing. She could understand where a job like Lincoln’s would be more relaxing than stressful.

His parents were waiting outside on the deck for them as they walked closer.

“Hi,” she said, moving forward. “I’m so happy to meet you.”

Lincoln’s mother’s face lit right up and she walked closer. “Not as thrilled as we are to meet you. I had lost hope that Lincoln would find anyone that he could have a serious relationship with.”

She saw Lincoln frown and didn’t know the reason for that, but she bumped her hip with his. “My mother felt the same way. I’m glad I finally told myself to just pursue him. He’s kind of blind when it comes to women.”

“I never thought I was,” he said. It was the look on his face that made her wonder what more was going on.
