I wanted to kill him right then and there. But my rage was momentarily deferred when I noticed Ivan Zotov standing right next to Donnelly, dressed impeccably in a tuxedo.

Zotov winked and then grinned, his eyes cold and calculating, clashing with the smug grin twisting his lips.

Bastard. My blood boiled at the sight of him.

“Short time no see, Alessandro Falcone,” he said.

My fists clenched, and I barely contained my anger. Zotov had been playing games with us all along, showing up at the club in Malta.

Was this his endgame? Had he been monitoring his future bride—not that I’d ever let that happen—or did he have other plans?

I looked at Vince, and our gazes locked. He looked deadly determined. Just like me.

However, this ended, Fee would walk out of here a free woman.

“There’s no way out,” Donnelly shouted.

Fee gripped my back tighter.

CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

Icowered behind Alex’s back and tried—without much success—to get my breathing under control.

What had I done? Alex had been caught out in the open because of me.

“There’s no way out. Are you going to hide like a coward behind my daughter?” my father shouted, his voice sending shivers down my spine.

I gripped Alex’s back.

My father was right. If we tried to run, the chances of us making it out alive were non-existent. My father’s people probably wouldn’t shoot me, but Alex would be fair game.

Alex turned around and grabbed my hands. I looked up at him, my eyes shining with tears. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to?—”

“Shhh.” He wiped my tears away gently. “Don’t, princess. Just promise me to run when I say run.”

I shook my head.

He cupped my cheek. “This is it, princess. And I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

I swallowed hard. “What do you plan to do?”

He smiled at me, that cocky, self-confident smile that I hated and loved at the same time.

“I can’t…don’t leave me.” My voice broke on the last word.

Rage flickered in his eyes, but he tamped it down. “That will never happen, princess, trust me. You’re mine now, and I protect what’s mine.” He cupped my face, meeting my gaze. “Zotov will never touch you. I won’t let him come within a hundred miles of you.”

“You can’t stop him if you’re dead,” I said softly.

He pulled me close, and I breathed in his familiar scent and soaked up the unique feeling of being safe in his strong arms.

What a nightmare.

“Trust me.” He brushed his lips over my forehead. “I’d rather die than let anyone take you from me.”

My chest squeezed and my fingers curled into his coat. Fresh tears spilled onto my cheeks. How could he even think this way?

He wiped them away. “And I don’t intend to die just yet. Not when I’ve finally got you.”
