She flinched back. “Hell, no. I’d rather die.”

“Well, princess. I’m not asking.” The words came out more forceful than I’d intended, but I didn’t regret them. “Now, are you going to go in and pick out some clothes, or do I have to carry you in there myself?”

A blush crept over her cheeks. “Fine. But I’m not going overboard—a few essentials to get me through the next couple of days, that’s it. And then I’ll get the biggest cup of ice cream there is.”

“Whatever you want,” I said, unable to keep the smug satisfaction from my voice.

Falcone 1, Donnelly 0.

And I had naked pics of her to look forward to.

CHAPTER SIX

Ipreceded Alex through the doors of the boutique.

A blast of cool air washed over me as I entered and stopped in my tracks.

The spacious room, decorated in crisp lines, minimalist décor, counter-balanced by high ceilings, and a lavishly glittering chandelier was not what I had expected. The glass from the chandelier looked like diamonds, refracting pinpricks of light that danced across the marble floor and the sea of silk, satin, and every other expensive material known to humankind.

I couldn’t believe it.

This was where he would bring me after he watched me pee on the side of the road and when all I needed were a couple of T-shirts, jeans-shorts, and a bikini?

I scoffed.

Apparently, entitled asshole wasn’t so far off.

Entitled asshole who had handled my emergency situation surprisingly cool. Like, making-me-swoon cool.

Fuck.

It would be easy to fall for all of this—the money, the power, the charm.

If I didn’t know the darkness that hid behind it.

He was the second son of the Falcone family—one of the most influential, most powerful Mafia families in Italy and, apparently, Malta.

I’d researched the Falcone family, after Sophie told me she would marry Gabe. Apparently, Gabe bailed for almost a decade, and Alex took over as the potential heir—was trained to take over the family and earned his reputation as lethal and dangerous.

Killed, tortured, threatened…and he told me to not be ashamed on the road earlier?

Nope.

I couldn’t forget the way he acted when we first met. His opinion of me clearly couldn’t have been lower and his actions more derogatory.

So he had a more human side to him? Didn’t mean he wasn’t an arrogant jerk.

The sales staff immediately recognized him, and the ladies almost fell over each other to greet, flirt, and accommodate their newest high-value client.

Disgusting.

“Ladies, my woman here”—Alex grabbed me by my shoulders and pulled me in front of him—“needs a new wardrobe.”

His woman—as if.

A sales associate looked me up and down, her eyes lighting up at the prospect of a sizeable commission, but I shot her down with one look.

“We’ll browse on our own,” I said.
