I glared at my brother. Moment of truth. “She got triggered last night by something I said.”

“And.”

“And I decided there are some people who need to pay.”

Gabe nodded. “I’ll tell Cristo to make sure we’ve gotten everyone involved.”

Not good enough.

I wanted to lay my hands on them personally, kill them personally, and make it hurt.

A lot.

“Cristo,” Gabe said.

I nodded. “Yeah, I can talk to him myself.” And make sure he knew those fuckers were mine to destroy.

“No.” Gabe stood. “Cristo’s here.”

I stood and turned, and sure enough, there he was, trodding behind my mother and one of Fee’s sisters.

What the fuck were they doing here?

There was a squeal from across the room, and Fee’s sister and my mother changed directions. But not before I caught the longing look my mother cast in my direction.

Fuck.

My chest squeezed.

I hadn’t talked to her since that evening in the kitchen. Hadn’t talked to her since she confirmed old Moretti’s deathbed confession that I was his son, not my father’s.

I pulled my eyes from her to Cristo, who’d almost reached us. He bro-hugged each of us, then planted himself in one of the chairs while letting out a sigh.

Gabe chuckled. “What’s happening, Cristo?”

Cristo shook his head and closed his eyes. “I can’t believe you left me alone with all those females.”

“All those females? Wasn’t Sophie’s family supposed to leave right after us?”

Cristo scoffed. “They left, but not after I witnessed Mom flirting with Sophie’s dad and convincing him that she and Sophie needed some female companionship.”

“Female companionship?” Gabe said.

Cristo sighed and pointed at Sophie’s sister. “I’ve never met a more stuck-up woman in my life. She’s the poster child for only-girls Catholic private school. And the way she looks at me… It’s as if she’s condemning everything I think or do.”

I chuckled. Cristo was a jokester. You would never know by the way he portrayed himself that there was even an inch of seriousness in him. Even though I knew most of it was just a mask.

And it worked.

Most of our enemies, hell, even the guys in our organization, underestimated him, which was a good place to be.

“So, what? Cara’s staying in Italy?” Gabe asked.

Cristo nodded. “She’s staying and showing her disdain for me daily.”

Matt laughed. “It seems that each of you has your very own version of a Donnelly nemesis,” he said then looked at Gabe. “Except for you, of course.”

Gabe chuckled. “Let me tell you one thing, Sophie, sure enough, keeps me on my toes. Wait…” Gabe’s gaze locked on me like a missile zeroed in on its target. “That means Fiona and you are really an item?”
