Killian’s hand fisted into a ball on the tablecloth, his attention one hundred percent on me.

“I later found out that Jonny told them I was obsessed with him. That I wouldn’t leave him alone even though he’d ended things.” I paused and lowered my eyes to the meal in front of me, thinking about that for a second. “Which I guess is true, in a way, because I kept calling him. Because I had no clue he wanted out.”

When silence was all that met my ears, I raised my eyes to see Killian looking at me in a way that made my heart skip all over itself.

“Pretty stupid, huh?”

Killian’s eyes softened, and my pulse began to race. “If you mean him, then yes, he’s really fucking stupid. But everyone who meets Jonny knows that. So why don’t we look at your experience in a new light? One where you dodged a fucking bullet, and are now sitting at dinner with the most handsome, charming bastard you’ve ever met in your life.”

I shook my head but grinned. “Is that right?”

“Damn right it is. And Levi?”

As I spun my fork in my pasta, I met Killian’s gaze head-on. “Yeah?”

“I’m not stupid, and I know what’s in front of me, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make you realize that some rules are worth breaking.”

Killian

FUCK JONNY.

I’D always had a bad feeling about that irritating asshole. But after hearing what he’d done to Levi, I wanted to track him down and beat the hell out of him.

What a selfish piece of shit. He could’ve very well ended Levi’s career with the bullshit move he’d made. But due to Levi’s determination and grit, he’d proven to the world—and no doubt himself—that he was more than some rock star’s quick fuck. He’d gone on to become one of the top managers in the industry, and now managed the biggest rock band in the world, the biggest fuck you he could’ve ever given to Jonny, and hell if that didn’t make him all the more appealing.

I looked at Levi finishing off his dessert, and wondered what he was thinking about. After he’d spilled his guts, Levi had gone about eating his meal quietly, as though reflecting on everything he’d just confessed to.

I knew this had to have been difficult for him; Levi was never one to act anything other than confident and self-assured. But right now he appeared more vulnerable than I’d ever seen him before, and I wanted him to know that with me, he never had to feel anything other than safe.

“How’s your dessert?”

Levi raised his eyes to meet mine, and when a smile slowly curved his lips, my heart began to race. Jesus, the man was unbelievably beautiful. I mean, I’d always thought he was sexy, but when he dropped the scowl and looked at me the way he was now—as though he were actually enjoying my company—I was pretty sure I’d get on my knees and beg him for date two if he tried to deny me.

“It’s delicious. The entire meal was.”

“Agreed. I can see why this place came so highly recommended.”

Levi scooped up another spoonful of pavlova. “Were you asking around?”

“Maybe. I couldn’t exactly steal you away and then take you to McDonald’s for lunch, could I?”

“Ah, we’re back to you trying to impress me, huh?” Levi slipped the spoon between the lips I wanted to kiss, and when he dragged it free all nice and clean, I reached beneath the table to readjust myself.

Levi swallowed his sweet treat, and I noticed a spot of cream on the corner of his lips and crooked my finger at him. When he leaned across the table, I swiped the cream off with my thumb and licked it clean.

“Always. I swear, everything I do lately is to impress you.” Levi’s lips parted, and if we hadn’t been in such a public place, I would’ve lowered my mouth to his and taken the kiss it was clear we both wanted. “Levi?”

Levi blinked slowly, and it pleased the hell out of me when he swayed toward me.

“Yes?”

“Thank you for telling me about Jonny.”

“Odd thing to thank me for.”

“Well, now it all makes more sense to me. I understand why you’re hesitant to trust me.”

Levi licked his lips, and damn, I would’ve given away everything I owned right then to follow his tongue with mine.

“It’s not that I don’t trust you—”

“Yes, it is,” I said. “And who could blame you? Jonny was a total dick, and me? I’ve never had a relationship in my life.”

Levi’s eyes widened. “Never? You mean, you weren’t joking earlier about the casual—”

“Hookups?” I interjected, not wanting him to think about the fact that he had once been a casual fuck to someone. “No. I wasn’t joking. But I’ve always been very clear up front. I’ve never been with someone more than one night, and, well, no one’s ever left my bed anything other than…pleased.”
