Levi shook his head, and the soft chuckle that left him made me grin.

“You’re extremely arrogant,” he said, but there was no malice behind the words. In fact, he sounded as though he liked my confidence a hell of a lot.

“So are you, just in different ways. It’s one of the things that’s so damn attractive about you.”

“Killian…”

“About these rules of yours.”

“Yes?”

“What was the first one again?”

Levi arched an eyebrow. “Don’t sleep with your client.”

I nodded and pursed my lips. “That’s what I thought. But if I’m honest, sleeping wasn’t really high on my list of things to do with you. So if it makes you feel better, we can cross that one off right now.”

Levi scoffed. “You and I both know I mean don’t have sex with a client.”

I wasn’t sure why, but hearing him lump me in with Jonny made my stomach twist. “And is that all I am to you? A client?”

“Killian,” he said, shaking his head. “I not only have to think about my career—I have to think about yours too. So, yes, I think of you as a client because I’m your manager. That’s my job. But God help me, I can’t stop imagining…”

“What?” I said, my voice whisper soft as I desperately grabbed that opening with both hands. “You can’t stop imagining what, Levi?”

With his eyes locked on mine, Levi rubbed his fingers across his lips. “I can’t stop imagining what it would be like to be more than that with you.”

The little blood that was left in my head rushed directly south at the fevered look in Levi’s eyes, and without a word, I pushed back from the table and got to my feet. I reached into the pocket of my shorts and pulled my wallet free, and after throwing a couple of hundred-dollar bills on the table, I stopped beside Levi, who was looking up at me with wide eyes full of desire and…hesitation.

“What’s rule three?” I said, and thanked God the shirt I was wearing fell far enough past the zipper of my shorts to keep me decent.

Levi got to his feet, and when we were face to face, his eyes fell to my mouth. “Never break rules one and two.”

THE TRIP BACK to our hotel was made in silence. But unlike the comfortable quiet we’d experienced throughout dinner, this time the air was full of tension. I was highly aware of every move Levi made. When he stretched his legs, first the left then the right. When he bit down on his lower lip. When he smiled at something the Uber driver said. Every single thing he did made me want to reach over and touch him.

Instead, I sat beside him in the back of the car and thought back to what Levi had told me at dinner. I knew he was worried about what had happened in the past, and now that I understood his hesitation, the last thing I wanted him to think was that I was after a quick fuck.

Every now and then I would catch Levi looking in my direction, and whenever I met his gaze, he aimed a knowing smile my way, as though he knew how difficult I was finding it to keep my hands to myself. Because it was. And now I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do about it.

When we finally reached the hotel and made our way up to the top floor, I kept my hands jammed in my pockets. The last thing I needed was for a fan or one of the guys to see us acting any way other than normal, spooking Levi into re-erecting all his walls.

Levi’s suite was the first off the elevator, mine was two more down, and when he stopped in front of his door, he looked at me and said, “Thank you for today.”

Looking up and down the hall, I made sure the coast was clear and took a step closer to him. “So… I’m not in trouble for kidnapping you?”

Levi chuckled. “So you admit it? You did kidnap me today.”

I placed a hand on the door by his head and nodded. “Oh yeah, I totally kidnapped you.”

Levi raised a hand to my chest, and when I placed my other one over the top of his, he sighed. “Killian.”

“Levi,” I whispered over the top of his lips. “I’m gonna make you break your rules with me.”

Levi clenched the material covering my chest. “That’s probably not a good idea.”

I grazed my lips over his. “Why not?”

Levi arched off the door. “Because it won’t end well.”

Something in his tone, something in the way Levi’s voice shook around those words, made a warning sign flash in my mind, but when he nipped at my lower lip, I shoved it aside. He was here, so was I, and his mouth was so exquisite that I wanted to devour it.
