Rook joined me at the railing.

For several moments, neither of us spoke.

We watched the harbor.

Comfortable silence had become one of the things I liked most about him.

“You’re still here,” he said.

I looked at him.

“Were you expecting me to disappear?”

“You’ve done it before.”

“That was different.”

“How?”

“You didn’t know me then.”

His gaze held mine.

“And now?”

“Now you know exactly how difficult I am.”

The corner of his mouth lifted.

“I had a general idea.”

I turned back toward the water.

“The war isn’t over.”

“No.”

“There are still names on the list.”

“There are.”

“Someone erased Black Site Theta from multiple government databases. Someone sent fighters after us and a cleanup team to the airfield.”

Rook’s jaw tightened.

“Nightfall is wounded. That makes the people behind it more dangerous.”

“I’m staying until we find every one of them.”

“Good.”

I looked at him.

“Good?”

“We need the help.”

“There it is.”
