His head turned slightly.

“Who the fuck told you that?”

I laughed under my breath. “See? This is exactly what I’m talking about.”

“I’m serious.”

And that was the problem with his ass. Kyrie really believed if something bothered me enough, he could find a way to fix it. But he couldn’t fix this.

My hand drifted toward my stomach before I quickly dropped it back into my lap.

I hadn’t told him what was really bothering me. Hell, I didn’t even want to say that shit out loud. I’d been pregnant before, and I knew what it felt like to be excited about a baby, only have that excitement ripped away from me.

The closer we got to the doctor’s office, the harder it became to push that memory into the back of my mind. All I wanted was to hear that everything was okay. That this baby was where I needed it to be. That I could actually let myself get excited without constantly wondering if something would go wrong.

Kyrie squeezed my thigh again.

“You sure that’s all it is?”

I looked over at him. Concern sat behind his eyes, even though he was trying his best not to make a big deal out of it.

“Yeah,” I lied. “That’s it.”

He stared at me for another second before turning his attention back to the road. I knew he didn’t believe me.

Thankfully, he didn’t push. By the time we pulled into the parking lot, my stomach felt like it was tied in one big-ass knot.

Kyrie parked, then came around to my side and opened my door. I slipped my hand into his as he helped me out, and once my feet hit the ground, he closed the door behind me.

“Come on, ma.”

His fingers laced through mine as we headed toward the building. I glanced down at our hands before looking over at him.

He seemed calm as hell, while my nerves were doing everything but letting me breathe easy.

Kyrie must’ve felt me looking because he glanced down at me.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

He squeezed my hand. “You good?”

I nodded, even though I still wasn’t completely convinced. But as nervous as I was about walking into the office, having him by my side made it easier.

After what felt like forever, my name was finally called. Kyrie stood when I did, and we followed the nurse to the back.

She checked my weight and blood pressure before leading us into a room. Once I settled, she asked me a few questions, typed something into the computer, then told us the doctor would be in shortly.

The second the door closed behind her, Kyrie looked over at me.

“You still nervous?”

“A little.”

He reached over and took my hand. “Come here.”

“I’m already sitting beside you.”
