“’Cause I want to.”
She shook her head, but she stopped arguing, letting herself relax against my chest.
I looked down at her and smiled.
“You ain't gotta do everything by yourself no more, ma.”
She looked up at me, her eyes soft.
“I know.”
“Good.”
Holding her a little tighter, I carried her down the hallway toward our bedroom, not taking my eyes off her once.
I carried her through the doorway and nudged the bedroom door shut behind us with my foot.
She laughed when I still didn't put her down.
“Kyrie…”
“What?”
“I told you I can walk.”
“I know.”
“Then why you still carrying me?”
I looked down at her and smirked.
“’Cause I want to.”
She rolled her eyes, but she didn't argue again. Instead, she rested her head against my chest, and I held her a little tighter before finally setting her down on the edge of the bed.
My hands stayed on her waist a second longer than they needed to. She looked up at me, and for a minute, neither of us said anything.
Damn… Every time I looked at her, that same thought hit me all over again. She was my wife. And she was carrying our baby. I still couldn't believe that shit.
“You know what you do to me?” I asked, my voice coming out rougher than I meant it to.
She tilted her head.
“What?”
“Everything.”
My thumb brushed across her cheek before sliding along her jaw.
“You got me out here losing my damn mind, ma.”
A smile spread across her face.
“You always losing your mind.”
“Nawl.” I chuckled, stepping between her legs. “This different.”
She searched my face for a second.
