"What about your place?" I asked, and she lowered her gaze.

"I have some things I need to do before I have any visitors over," she admitted, sounding sheepish as she spoke. "I don't want you thinking any less of me just because I wasn't prepared." Raising an eyebrow at her, I shook my head.

"Is your place messy?" I asked, my voice calm yet condescending as if I were speaking to a child. She looked even more embarrassed as she nodded in response. Chuckling, I shook my head at her. "Alright, how about this weekend then? We'll get together and spend the entire weekend together." She smiled as she looked up at me.

"You mean it?" she asked, and I nodded as I glanced at the clock on the dash.

"Of course," I replied as I started up the car. "Now, let's get you home. It's almost your bedtime." Seeing the clock, she started to pout.

"But it's only eight at night," she complained. "Can't I stay up a little while longer?" Immediately, I shook my head.

"Not on a work night," I told her. Seeing the look of disappointment on her face, I couldn't help but smile. "Don't worry, Little One. You'll have a chance to stay up late this weekend. It's only a few days away." With that, we took off towards the apartment, and I couldn't help but smile when I saw the excited look on her face as we drove.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Jessica

The following few days, I had to work the early morning shift, and I did everything I could to avoid the other nurses. After hearing Grant say that he was afraid that the other nurses might try to scare me off, I didn't want to do anything that put me on anyone's radar. So, as I went through my shift, the only thing that kept me going was the promise of getting to spend the weekend with Grant.

He had made my birthday magical, and he agreed to be my Daddy. He had insisted that we keep our relationship a secret, and I agreed. The only one who knew about us was Kristy.

"So, are you going to tell me what happened between the two of you?" she asked. "Or are you going to keep your best friend in the dark?" Motioning for her to keep her voice down, I looked around the break room, hoping that none of the other nurses overheard her.

"Keep your voice down," I hissed, still paranoid despite the fact I didn't see anyone else in the break room. "Do you want the entire office knowing about it?" She smiled as she raised an eyebrow at me.

"Alright," she said as she lowered her voice. "So, what’s the deal between you and Dr. Jones?” I motioned for her to keep her voice down. After double-checking to make sure no one could hear us, I took a deep breath and continued.

“Things were good,” I informed her. “We had a nice dinner, and we got to know each other. That’s pretty much all that happened.” Not seeming convinced, she raised an eyebrow at me.

“That’s it?” she asked, and I nodded in response. “Are you sure that’s all that happened? You didn’t do anything else or talk about anything important?” Thinking it over, I shook my head.

“Nothing important,” I reassured her after a moment. “At least nothing I want to go bragging about while here at work. I don’t need the others hating me more than they do already.” Realizing what I meant, her eyes widened in shock and surprise, and she nodded her head in response.

“I see now,” she said as the realization dawned on her. “It went well for you then, didn’t it?” Unable to hold back any longer, I nodded in response.

“Yes,” I finally admitted. “It turned out perfectly, and I couldn’t ask for anything better.” She smiled at me as she shook her head at me.

“Are you going to be seeing each other again?” she asked, and I nodded, earning another nod of acknowledgment from her. “Does he know about your preferences?” Again, I nodded, and she looked surprised as she stared at me in silence for a moment. “How did that conversation go?” After considering everything, I took a deep breath.

“He tried to come over last night,” I informed her, feeling my cheeks burn in embarrassment as I spoke. “Thanks to you coming over the night before, I didn’t have much time to clean up, so I tried to come up with a decent excuse to convince him not to come in.” Kristy lowered her gaze, looking as embarrassed as I felt.

“Sorry about that,” she said as she stared down at her coffee mug. “I didn’t mean to mess everything up for you. I’m sure you wanted to have him in….” Much to my surprise, I shook my head.

“Actually, I didn’t mind it,” I admitted. “After all that happened, as soon as he realized I was embarrassed, he seemed to know, and he brought up the subject. If anything, I think it helped the conversation along.” She looked confused as she stared at me for a moment.

“Do you mean it?” she asked, and I nodded in agreement. After taking a chance to process what I had just said, she continued. “I can’t believe how lucky you were. If it were me, there’s no way everything would have gone as smoothly.” I couldn’t help but smile as I shook my head at her.

“It’s not a problem,” I told her as I placed a hand on her shoulder, trying to reassure her as I spoke. “You’ll find someone in time. You just haven’t found the proper man yet.” She shook her head at me as she gave me a sad smile.

“If you say so,” she said before shaking her head. “Anyways, I’m not worried about me. I’m more worried about you. What are you going to do now?” I smiled back as I lowered my voice.

“Like I was going to tell you,” I continued, lowering my voice to a whisper as I spoke, “I’m going to see him again this weekend. That means I’m going to get to see what it means to be with him.” Her jaw dropped as she stared at me in surprise, looking just as thrilled as I felt.

“That’s amazing!” she exclaimed, temporarily forgetting my request for her to keep her voice down. Catching herself right as I motioned for her to quiet down again, she covered her mouth. “Sorry…” We both fell silent for a moment, trying to see if we were still alone, and we both sighed with relief when we realized no one was coming. After a while, she sighed and shook her head. “That’s incredible. I’m so proud of you.” I nodded as I glanced at the clock.

“I should get back to work,” I stated as I realized my break time was over. “I know Nancy and Janet are going to be screaming for me if I don’t get through my rounds before they come in at three.” Kristy sighed as she followed me to the doorway of the break room.

“Same,” she agreed, sounding a bit sad as she spoke. “Promise me that you’ll let me know what happens this weekend. No skimping on the details, either. I want to know everything.” Laughing, I shook my head at her.
