“That was one call. I was busy. I don’t think that warrants a work drop-in.”

“I miss you.”

I blink. Then blink again. Did I hear him correctly? “You miss me?”

“Yeah. Ever since I saw you at Target, I can’t stop thinking about you.” I accidentally let out a laugh. I have no idea where it came from, but the thought of this heartless man missing me is definitely laughable.

“Jordan, I’m pregnant with another man’s baby.”

“I know. But we have a history. It goes way deeper than whatever you and that guy have.”

“Ok, first of all, we have nothing. You made it very clear that you did not want to be with me when you left. So everything we had is now null and void. Second, what did you think would happen if you came here? That I’d forgive you, and we would live happily ever after?”

“I’m sorry for the way everything happened, Haze. I really am. We were good together. You know that.”

“We were not good together.”

“Yes, we were. Don’t play hard to get.” Um. This man has gotten even cockier since he left me, and it’s definitely not a good look on him. How was I in a relationship with him for so long? “I’m willing to forgive you for sleeping with someone else if you give us another chance.”

“I’m sorry, what? You’ll forgive me?” He cannot be serious.

“Yeah, I mean, obviously, I haven’t been celibate, but at least I don’t have a baby from it.”

I laugh again. “Oh my God. You are insane. I will never ask for forgiveness for having sex with someone else because, honestly, it was the best sex of my entire life. So you can turn around and walk yourself right out of here, ok? We are never getting back together.”

“You don’t mean that, Haze.” He tries to pull me toward him, but I take a huge step back.

“I mean it with every ounce of my being, Jordan. I wouldn’t be with you again if you were the last man on earth, ok?”

“Wow, you’ve become a bitch, haven’t you?” He cocks his head and looks at me with confusion swimming in his eyes.

“Maybe I have. But it helped me see who you really are. You need to leave right now, and don’t ever try to contact me again.”

“Fine, this was obviously a mistake.”

“Yes, it was.” He turns and walks down the hallway. I watch until I can’t see him anymore and go back to class.

Could this week get any worse?

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

WES

This can not be happening.

I didn’t even have to come to this class today. I got the email yesterday informing me that my inappropriate relations with a faculty member make me ineligible to pass the class this semester. So basically, all the work I put into this class and the hiding and sneaking around with Hazel was for absolutely nothing.

But I got up and came to class anyway because I’m pathetic and wanted to see Hazel. I wanted to see that she wasn’t ok just like I’m not ok.

I’m also not ready to tell my friends what happened, and it would’ve been weird if I wasn’t going to class a week before finals. So, here I am.

I’ll have to take the class again next semester and push my graduation to summer. My advisor has already helped me get the class added to my schedule.

Oh, well.

It is what it is.

Does it suck that I won’t graduate with my friends? Yes. Will my parents be disappointed in me? Also, yes.
