“I’m going to the gym. Wanna go?” I ask her, knowing damn well she does not want to go to the
gym.
“Absolutely not.” I laugh and grab my things.
“Alright, see ya later.”
I open the front door, and I’m immediately met with a wide-eyed Celine, her hand raised as if she
was about to knock. She looks just as surprised as I feel.
“What are you doing here?” I ask her slowly, wondering to myself if I’ve become so obsessed
with this woman that I’m now imagining her when she’s not really here.
“Hey. Glad I caught you. I wasn’t sure if you had plans today.” She’s talking really fast. Faster
than normal, anyway. My brow crinkles in confusion as I take in her appearance. She’s in Brunswick
University sweatpants and a black crop top, which is typical attire for her. But her eyes look huge,
and her hands look jittery. A loopy smile floats across her lips, and it almost makes me laugh. Almost.
“Are you high?”
She laughs. “No way, Jose. I left my parent’s house at six a.m., so I’ve had a bucket of coffee on
my drive here. I’m pretty sure I’d bleed caffeine at this point.”
“Ok…”
“Anyway, can I come in?” She looks over my shoulder into the apartment. I’m sure Sadie is
peeking over the couch to figure out what’s going on. “I want to talk to you, but I’d rather not do it in
the hallway.”
“Yeah. Ok. You know where my room is.” I usher her in. She saunters past me, and the smell of
her shampoo assaults my senses. I have to fight the urge to bury my face in her hair. God, I’m pathetic.
Why did I have to fall in love with the one woman who doesn’t want me?
Fuck me.
Celine goes into my bedroom. I glance at Sadie, and she raises her eyebrows at me in question. I
shrug in response because I really have no idea what’s going on. I’ve had my phone with me all
morning, so I know I haven’t missed any texts or calls from Celine.
She just drove all the way here from her parents, which I know is about two hours past
Brunswick. That’s almost a four-hour drive first thing in the morning. I’m really hoping she hasn’t
decided to be the bigger person and drove all the way here to let me down. I definitely would’ve
preferred a text for that.
