“Hey, will you go dress shopping with me tomorrow? I still haven’t gotten anything for the
wedding.”
“Celine! The wedding is next weekend. Why did you wait so long?” Wes and Hazel are getting
married next weekend. It’s going to be a big thing, and we’ve all been buzzing about it for months.
“I know, I know. I’m the worst. But you had it easy. Hazel already picked out the bridesmaid’s
dresses. All you had to do was make sure it fits.”
“Thank God she didn’t pick something hideous.”
“I know. That lavender color looks great on you,” I tell Stella because it really does. Although,
my best friend is beautiful and looks good in just about everything. Her long blonde hair and bright
green eyes are the cherry on top of her banging body.
“Aww, thanks.” She blows me a kiss. “But yes, I will go shopping with you tomorrow. We’ve got
to make sure you look hot.”
“For what? I just told you I’m done with men for a while.”
“Well, it’s always good to look good for yourself. But also, Ezra is coming up.”
“Ugh, again with the Ezra thing? Come on, Stella. I’ve told you a million times that Ez and I are
just friends.”
“I know that’s what you say, but he totally wants you, Celine.”
“I mean, maybe he did when he went to school here, but I think that was just because I was around
so much, you know? I think we formed a really good friendship. In fact, we’ve already decided that
we’re going to be each other’s date for the wedding.”
She wiggles her eyebrows at me. “A date?”
“Not like that,” I say with an eye roll. Literally everyone has been trying to hook Ezra and me up
for years. I think we’ve got a good thing going with our friendship right now, and I wouldn’t want to
ruin it by doing something stupid like having sex. Or worse, dating.
Ezra is a relationship person. I’m clearly not. I can’t see anything good coming from us being
together. And I think Ezra agrees.
We’ve never actually talked about it, but we hung out a lot that year before he left, and we talk
pretty regularly now. He’s never tried to make a move or express interest in me beyond the first month
or two that I knew him. I think it’s just my friends being crazy and trying to play matchmaker.
“Do we need to make sure your dress coordinates with his outfit?” Stella asks.
