new egg next year.” Kellan patted his belly.
“You might get more than one egg—since it’s your second laying. Vic won’t mind?”
Kellan shook his head. “Not at all. He’s become the most awesomest of fathers and he’s crazy
about Erik. He said we should have as many as I want, and we both agree that Erik needs some
brothers and sisters.”
Sean pictured Kellan, Vic, Erik and their perfect family up on the hill above the lake. He
refused to be jealous of his friend, the swan who’d fought the vicious one who’d kidnapped him.
Kellan’s brother.
But he could also picture him and Avi with an egg on the way. Perhaps on that same hill or
close by? Then their hatchlings could all play together. He smiled.
Kellan nudged Sean’s knee with the tip of his foot. “What are you grinning about? Dreaming of
eagles, maybe?” Kellan gave him a smirk.
“He’s the one, Kel. I know he is.” Sean couldn’t believe he’d finally admitted it out loud.
“Yay! I knew it too.” Kellan rolled his eyes. “You’re more stubborn than a wolf.”
Sean picked at the comforter, unable to hold Kellan’s gaze. “I wasn’t being stubborn. I only
thought… You know… I’m not really…” He glanced up and was met with a glare from Kellan.
“What?”
“I hope you’re not about to say something mean about yourself.”
“No! Not mean, just…realistic.”
Judging from his continued scowl, Kellan didn’t appear convinced. “Any Alpha would be
privileged to have you as their mate. I don’t want to hear any more nonsense from you saying
something different.” Silence fell between them as they both seemed to absorb Kellan’s words. “All
right,” Kellan continued. “Tell me about your new guitar and what you’re doing with that notebook
there.” Kellan shook his finger toward said item.
Sean found he actually did want to tell someone about what had happened and what his idea
was. Maybe it wouldn’t seem so silly if he said it out loud.
“Well, after my shift the other day I was walking into town to go to the thrift shop. I’ve been
saving for a guitar because Finn…” Sean swallowed hard and Kellan winced. “Anyway, Avi
happened to be driving by and stopped to ask if I needed a ride. We got to talking, and it turns out he
loves music, so I got this idea…”
