“You’re disgusting!” Lisann yells at me as she rushes over to help her pet.
“Might want to get him to the vet.”
Dex piles on, saying, “Good thing you already got him leashed up for the ride.”
A leash. That’s what it’s supposed to be.
“He’s not a dog!”
“Could’ve fooled me,” I mutter on the way to my Ram.
I go for the back door first, opening it and—
Jesus.
I almost have to take a step back. The smell of sex has been replaced with booze. A lot of booze.
How long was I gone for?
Kota’s up front with a bottle of vodka pressed to her lips.
Giving Tina my best frown, I jerk a thumb that way.
“She’s in a vulnerable state,” is all she has to say for herself, slurring her words of course.
“You’re not.”
“Solidarity.”
“You don’t even like her,” I say with a shake of my head.
“Untrue.”
“Up.”
As soon as her ass is off the bench seat, I lift it to grab two towels and a hoodie from underneath.
One towel, I use to wipe my hands and wrists off before throwing it in the bed. The other, I take around to the passenger side with me, along with the hoodie.
After opening Kota’s door, I pluck the bottle from her hold.
“Hey.”
Ignoring her protest, I wipe her hand while inspecting it for cuts. It looks okay. No swelling, no redness. I think she grazed Lisann more than anything.
I check the bottoms of her feet next. Nothing major there either, just some dirt I clean off.
When Dex climbs in behind her, I pass both the towel and vodka to him.
Tina pipes up. “Now listen here—”
I cut her off to ask Kota, “Are you okay?”
“I don’t know.” Her voice is small, kinda how she looks right now.
Kota’s always small but her personality makes her seem bigger. Usually.
“What can I do?”
