“But I thought you guys had backups, and what about the limo?” I search for anyone that will give me an answer.

Luke nods. “Our backups had their tires slashed. But that’s not the story we’re telling right now.”

Tires slashed? What the hell happened last night? Besides, the obvious drugging and kidnapping.

“Anyway.” Jack squeezes my hand. “Your mom was there, but it’s not like she could fit six of us besides her in the car, especially with you still passed out.”

“Okay?” I glance at Will and Penny. “Where were you two?”

“Will didn’t get discharged until later. Luke came back and picked us up.” Penny glances at Will with a shy smile.

More things I don’t know about. But at least this I couldn’t have known because I was passed out.

“We needed another car, so I went and talked to my mom, who got called in for a delivery.” Jack looks at Eli. “She didn’t want me to drive because of my injuries, which meant someone else would have to take Mom’s car. And with Nico needing to keep his knee elevated and you passed out, it meant we couldn’t all be in the same car.”

Mom shakes her head. “I insisted you come with me in case anything happened to you.”

“Then we played rock, paper, scissors to see who got to carry you to the car.” Luke smirks. “I won.”

“You cheated,” Eli scoffs.

“You’re just a sore loser.”

“So you carried me out to the car?” I ask with a quizzical brow. I’m not sure why that’s important.

Luke nods.

“Eli and Nico took my mom’s car while Caden, Luke, and I took you home with your mom.”

“I still say Jack should have ridden in his mom’s car.” Nico takes a bite of waffle and winks at me when he notices me watching.

“Not the point,” Jack says.

“Does this actually have a point?” I ask.

Jack slides his hand along my jawline. “Just that we got you here. Luke went back later when Will got discharged. We called a tow truck to come to the school and fix the tires. Though they had trouble getting to them since the high school is a crime scene.”

“What?” I straighten, way to bury the lead.

Jack ducks his head. “Part of what we’ll tell you later.”

The doorbell rings just then, and Mom rises.

“I’ll go get it.” She walks out of the room.

“What was the point of that story?” I ask.

Jack gestures to my plate. It’s empty.

“You ate and didn’t worry about your missing memories.” He leans in and kisses me softly, resting his forehead against mine. “You don’t look quite as lost.”

I reach out and touch his chest. The steady beat of his heart thuds beneath my hand. There’s a story they haven’t told me, like why Jack has bandages. I caught the rawness on his wrists that wasn’t there earlier last night.

“I was with you the whole time, sweetheart. There’s no way I was going to leave you just for a car ride home.” He puts his hand over mine, holding it against his chest.

“You were with me?” My brows scrunch. Why can’t I remember anything?

“Good morning.” Two men walk in with my mother. The guy I recognize as Eli’s father from senior night glances around at all of us before his gaze falls on me. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Harper. I’m Cameron Jacobs.”
