When The Fair Goes Dark

“Charlie.” I say as I walk up to him.

He looked like he had a fight with grass as well.

“Where the hell have you guys been?” he asks, and pulls me in for a hug.

I let him for a second before stepping back.

Tingles erupt on my skin as I feel myself being watched.

Turning a little to the right, I see a flash of a mask near the upstairs window of the Farmhouse.

Was that the masked man?

I start in that direction.

Again, no line.

So strange.

“Where are you going?” Charlie asks.

I point to the next house.

“I’ll come with.” he said, but his voice didn’t sound so sure.

“Scared?” I asked.

“No.” he stared at the house. “I’m just saying, if some possessed farmer comes at me with a chainsaw, you’re on your own.”

“Wow, thanks.”

“Hey, you know the rules of this place.”

I think back to the bone mask.

We walk closer.

The farmhouse looked worse up close.

The front porch sagged beneath strips of yellow light, and every window had been boarded except one on the second floor, where I saw the guy.

We climb the porch steps.

I stop as I squint and try to look for the man standing in the window.

“You coming?”

I blinked.

Charlie was standing next to the worker.

This worker was wearing a pig mask.

From a scary movie or something.

It was disgusting.

“Yeah.”
