Nothing.

Then, I spotted them.

Sebastian and Sullivan near one of the employee entrances, no masks or anything covering their faces.

My steps slowed.

Sebastian noticed me first.

His familiar grin spreads across his face.

“Survived your first carnival?”

I stared at him as my group reaches them.

There were several other workers or actors around now.

That voice.

They both had on black, but now all the others were wearing black. They must have to wear that under whatever costume they we were wearing.

But, my question was, what were they dressed up as?

“Just barely.”

His grin widened. “There’s always next year.”

Next year.

My gaze moved to his brother.

Quiet as ever.

He looked at me once.

Just once.

No smile.

No teasing.

The complete opposite of his brother.

Nothing that suggested he’d spent part of the night chasing me through multiple attractions.

Nothing that said he had me against the wall of a farmhouse.

He looked away.

“Raven….. How was your first night?”

I turn to see Samuel approaching us.

He was too wearing all black, his hair shiny with sweat.

What if it was him?

“It was fine.” is all I could respond with. We all started to walk away, when something caught my eye.
