Above the ether, I look down at my planet and see the devil's vortexes grow larger with each passing second. The world needs me, and I am no longer afraid.

Ash

"It's nearly time," he says. "Have you made your peace with her passing?"

I lurch against the floor. I'm supposed to be a hero, but I have been weakened. My powers have only led me to the demise of the gods.

I have lost her, and with that loss, I have lost the will to fight.

Unable to look him in the eyes, I lower my head. "Just get this over with," I say.

Slowly, Lucifer lowers the gemstones, dimming their powers.

As if he can read my mind, he says, "It's useless going for your gun. I embodied it with both our blood and solidified it with a charm. It is harmless to our bodies."

"I used it on your hounds and the demons outside of these walls," I say.

His smile turns sinister. "Don't play dumb. Do you really think I am one of them? That, we are like them at all?"

I think about the memories I was shown. The more I think about them, the more my head pounds. "What are you talking about?" I groan.

He lifts me up onto my feet. "As you may have guessed, Beelzebub is made up of lost souls. When they come together, they form true evil. Look out the window behind you. The devil does not wait for my approval to act because I am not one of them. Neither are you."

I pause and push the curtains out of the way. The city is like nothing I have ever seen. There are no buildings left. Instead, there is a massive sinkhole. The dead are climbing on top of each other, holding limb to limb. They are forming one giant demonic body that towers over the city.

"In that library, you were the one who helped summon them. It's so clear now. But why?" I ask.

He comes up beside me and laughs. "You're perceptive," he says.

"I asked why."

He turns and sits on Jackson's desk. "You left me, and I needed help," he says.

"Why would a being like you need help?" I ask. "Weren't you a god?"

"When I lost my wings, I was exiled in shame. I lost an entire army. I needed to forge a new alliance, but I can promise you it will be short-lived."

My whole perception has been twisted around. I don't know what's right and what's wrong. What's light and dark seems meaningless to me, now.

There are too many questions to ask. "What about the revelations I kept getting? You've had access to my thoughts this whole time, haven't you?" I ask.

"Of course I have. Your mind was easy to manipulate. All of your visions have been relayed back to me," he says. "I needed to know how to control the angels, and you brought me right to them. You even aided in the destruction of the city. Bravo."

"You son of a bitch," I curse.

My words don't phase him. He knows I am powerless now. He has the gemstones. Every single one of them. He killed the only woman I have ever loved. Heimdall and Loki aren't coming back.

The war is over.

We lost.

He continues. "You and me are shadows of the same source. Light. Dark. On the face of it, they seem so different."

"They are different. Very fucking different," I say.

"No, you petulant fool." He scowls. "I fought wars to keep the evil dead and buried. In 4 B.C., I was casted out. I waited generations to find an ally. I found you."

I shut my mouth and grind my teeth together, enraged. I clench my fists and tremble. If I could summon the world to break, I would. Instead, I pull out the gun he gave me and put it to my head. "Without Raven, I do not care to live."
