Love her now. I could do that.

I nodded and leaned in, pressing my lips to hers. Our mouths began to make love, lips and tongues twisting and clashing in a passionate dance.

Her fingernails raked up my back as she slid my t-shirt up, and I paused our kiss long enough to yank it off and throw it aside. I did the same, pulling her tank top and her panties off.

Breathless, she rolled me over to work on my jeans, underwear, and socks.

No rush, we undressed each other, our breathing the only sound in the room as we exchanged heated glances and explored each other’s bodies languidly for I don’t know how long.

I knew every inch of Faith McMasters, but this felt different. She was touching something more than my skin as she caressed my flesh, traced my tattoos, seemed to memorize each vein, tendon, and bone. And I wanted nothing more than to inhale her soul as I took her in, along with the love she was sharing with me.

This felt real. This felt right.

No more façade or faking it.

In that moment at least, there was nothing but naked truth between us when I finally entered her sweet body. Poised above her, gazing into those blue eyes I loved so much, I moved achingly slowly. This wasn’t about racing toward an orgasm. Not tonight. This was about being with my love.

She let out a little gasping sigh as she hugged me tight, her arms wrapped around my torso, her thighs cradling my hips.

I pulled back gently. Thrust forward, hitting home, connecting perfectly.

She cried out and arched up, her breasts hitting my chest, silently begging me to move faster. To give her relief.

I tucked a hand under her ass, forcing her even higher as I thrust my hips harder. Deeper.

Her eyes flew open.

“I love you,” I gritted out as I began to fuck her fast and hard. “Don’t ever forget that. Ever.”

Her eyes were glazing over with pleasure, but she managed to focus long enough to reply. “I love you, too.”

I nodded and kissed her roughly. “Good. Now come for me.”

And she did. Hard. Taking me right over the edge with her.

Then I made sure she came one more time that night so she’d sleep like a baby. I did, too, until my phone blew up with text messages just before dawn.

Cyrus:Have you thought about my offer?

Cyrus:Things took a turn with Bastien. I may require your assistance sooner than anticipated.

Cyrus:Adam, this is urgent. Agent Goforth was compromised. My contact in the PD says Chief Beckett may be an imminent threat.

Cyrus:All threats to be eliminated immediately.

“What’s going on?”

I glanced down at Faith’s sleepy voice, her eyes squinting against the light from my phone. “Nothing, baby, go back to sleep.” I clicked off the screen.

“Adam—”

“Seriously, it’s nothing,” I said, kissing her head, hating that I had to lie. Again. “Just scrolling. I caught some of your insomnia, I guess. I’m gonna go get some water; you want anything?” I jumped up, my heart hammering in my chest at how much easier the deception was getting.

She shook her head and rested it back on her pillow, looking like everything I’d ever wanted and didn’t fucking deserve.

“Okay,” I said, kissing her bare shoulder. “I’ll be back in a minute.”

“Promise?” she said sleepily.

“Always,” I whispered against her skin.

I just prayed I could keep that promise.
