“I have to call her, so I’ll ask her about it. I’ll call you when I get home.”

“Okay. Have fun shopping, I’ll talk to you later. Love you.”

“Love you too.”

Elizabeth letherself into Will’s house, and when she heard music drifting down the hall from his office, she headed that way. Leaning against the doorway, she watched as he rocked back and forth, absorbed in the song he played. She pouted when she noticed that the curls that usually hung well below his collar were gone, the hair there now just barely reaching it.

She snuck up behind him and ran her hand up the back of his neck and into his hair, and the guitar let out a jarring squeal as he startled and spun around.

“Whydo you do that to me? You’re going to give me a heart attack one of these days.”

“Sorry. I was looking at your hair.”

He ran a hand through it. “What do you think?”

“You’re gorgeous, of course.”

“I was tempted to get a crew cut.”

“I’msoglad you didn’t, for purely selfish reasons.”

She kissed him, deciding it was a nice way to spend a few minutes, and eventually he pulled away from her.

“Are you trying to seduce me in my office?”

“Sadly, no. Is Georgie around?”

“She’s atherhouse.”

“She called me earlier, and I never called her back. Maybe I’ll walk over.”

“Okay. I’ll be here when you get back…just sitting in my office, all alone.” He kissed along the column of her neck. “You know, just in case you want to come say hi again.”

She smiled dreamily. “Mm. I’ll be back.”

She arrived at Georgiana’s and knocked, and Georgiana called out for her to come in. “I wondered if you got my message today.”

“I did, but I completely blanked on calling you back. I went dress shopping after work, which was a waste of time.”

They went into the living room and sat on the couch.

“You know, you’re welcome to browse my closet. I have a few nice dresses that would be perfect for the benefit, and we’re probably about the same size. Let me know if you want to take a look.”

“Thanks. I might take you up on that if I don’t have any luck tomorrow. Speaking of the benefit, have you thought about going?”

“I have. I’d love to see Richard—Will told me he has a girlfriend, and he’s bringing her with him, which is astonishing.”

“I can only imagine what Richard must be like if you two are so amazed he’s in a long-term relationship.” Elizabeth wasn't sure if Will had told his sistereverythingabout Richard's girlfriend, so she didn't say anything more.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great guy. I just never imagined him settling down.”

“So…are you coming with us?”

Georgiana nodded. “I think so.”

Elizabeth clapped her hands. “Yay! I’m so glad. Your brother will be happy too.”
