“Nonsense, you’re always welcome here, Cam. Come, let’s get you settled in the guest room.” Bea pulls me off the sofa and toward the stairs as she sends a glare toward her husband.

Later that evening, once I’ve settled into the guest bedroom, Leo’s housekeeper, Ilaria, has made us dinner. The three of us sit at the table and talk about tomorrow’s event.

There’s a knock at the door.

Bea looks to Leo who checks his phone.

“It’s fine, it’s just Alessandro,” he shrugs as he goes to answer the door.

Shit!

It didn’t even cross my mind that he would turn up. Just the memory of Sergio’s look of shame makes my stomach sink. I can’t face Alessandro when I feel so weak. Last time he saw me, we’d spent an amazing night together. I’d looked hot when he last saw me. Now, I’m sitting here in my slacks with my hair piled like a bird’s nest on my head with no make-up on.

Great!

Tears fill my eyes as I lower my head.

“Cam, what’s going on?” Bea whispers. As I look up at her, I can see tears welling in her eyes too.

All I know is I need to leave.

“I can’t see him, Bea, please, don’t make me see him.” I whisper-beg.

Her hand tenses on my shoulder, I plead with my eyes for her not to question my need.

She grabs hold of my hand and drags me up to the guest room.

“You need to start talking, Cam. I don’t want to push you, but you’re really worrying me. Are you ill? Has someone hurt you? Tell me, please. Leonardo will help you.”

The thought of Leo helping me has me laughing.

“No one can help me, Bea, I’ve ruined my life,” I tell her earnestly.

“What are you talking about? Stop talking in riddles and tell me already,” she whisper-shouts.

“Bea.” Leonardo shouts up the stairs.

“We’re busy, I’ll be down in a minute,” she shouts back.

“Please, don’t make me see him. I can’t, please, Bea.” I beg her to listen to me.

“Make you see who? I’m not going to force you to do anything. It’s just Leonardo and Ales…” then something clicks, and the worry in her face turns to rage. “What did he do, Cam? So help me, God, I’ll kill him if he’s hurt you.”

“It was my fault, Bea,” I choke. “At your wedding, our families were staying at the same hotel.” I whimper and swipe away the fresh tears that are now freely falling from my eyes. “We danced and flirted. He…” I take a deep breath. “He snuck into my room later that night.”

Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip, the coppery taste of blood fills my mouth.

“Cam,” Bea soothes, squeezing my hand.

“I slept with him, Bea,” I sob.

“What? Cam? Why would you do that, honey? Did he force you? Take advantage? Were you drunk?” She seeks clarification I can’t give her.

“He’s hot and arrogant, Bea, that’s why. No, it was my choice. But I’ve fucked up big time.”

“We can fix this, no one has to know,” she offers.

“I’ve missed my period, Bea.” I hiccup.

“I’m going to kill him,” she growls.

As she jumps to her feet, I snatch to grab her wrist. “Bea, no, stop!” Before I can grab ahold, she’s off. Flying down the stairs.
