ChapterTwenty-Eight

DONOVAN

Icouldn’t be happier.

Standing here with my friends, my mate hanging out with Grace, being a part of my world, our community. It completed me, and I couldn’t wait to have Savannah in my bed again later on. It sated me in ways I’d never have thought possible.

“What was it like?” Kyran asked me out of the blue as Harrison and Max chatted away.

“What?”

“The mating?”

“Ah, that.” I sighed in satisfaction. “It was mind-blowing. Terrifying at first, because I didn’t want to hurt her. And I hadn’t planned on it. I didn’t want to rush her into any of this. She’s someone not from our world, and she’s independent, headstrong, stubborn—everything I love about her. But when we got back last night, things got heavy between us, and we were outside, so my wolf got crazy. I barely managed to catch him in time because we got so caught up in the mate magic. I tried to stop it, but Savannah didn’t want me to and she asked me to claim her.”

“So she made the first move toward claiming?”

“I suppose she did, yeah. When I bit her, I held on, trying to keep the wolf at bay. But the second her blood hit my throat, her life force, everything made sense. She also said she didn’t remember sucking the blood from my finger because she had a vision.”

“Of what?”

“She was pregnant and painting outdoors. It freaked her out some.”

“But she’s still here.”

“Yeah.” I glanced over to see a newcomer standing with them. “Is that Genevieve?”

Kyran glanced over. “Yeah. She came in with Benny.”

At the mention of his beta, Max lifted his head. “What about Benny?”

“Genevieve. She came in with him.”

“Oh, yeah. She asked if she could come, but I told Benny to bring her in case I needed to stay here longer than planned for alliance business. Benny can drive her back. She returned home for good a couple of days ago.”

“Genevieve Longdon?” Harrison asked, perking up.

“Yes,” Max replied. “She needed to venture out on her own, that girl. Get it out of her system as I told her overprotective father. But now, her wolf has craved home and she’s returned. It always happens. Only with her, she’s going to continue being a handful of trouble until she’s found her forte. She’s always trying one thing or another. Always restless.” He rolled his eyes. “Now she wants to write a book.”

“A book?” Harrison asked, his eyes flaring with interest. It could be because he was a published novelist, a successful one in the murder-mystery market, but I also thought I’d caught a glimmer of something more.

“Yes,” Max replied. “I’ll point her in your direction soon, but she needs some time at home with her family. They’ve missed her, and she’s missed them. Although she won’t admit it. You up for company?”

“Sure” Harrison cleared his throat. “Send her when she’s ready. I’ll help where I can.”

“Alright. I’ll do that.”

“Uh-oh,” Kyran muttered, nudging Donovan. “Incoming.”

I turned to see Everleigh approaching with a young wolf Kyran had told me she was fucking now.

“Hey guys,” she said upon reaching us. “Thought I’d come and say hi. See what you’re up to.” She pointed to the wolf next to her. “This is Jason.”

“I know,” Kyran said, “seeing as he’s a member of my pack.”

Jason nodded toward his alpha. Everleigh scoffed, “Maybe you do. But I wanted him to meet you all.” She looked at me. “Do you mind me bringing him here?”

“Not at all,” I replied, uncomfortable. Everleigh looked good in the fitted black dress she wore showing off her luscious figure. But she didn’t do it for me any longer. Not when I had Savannah in my bed.
