“You go first and then I will.” My voice shook a little. He knew I was nervous so I got the side eye. “No, really, I will. I will!”

“Okay babe.” Luke kissed me and jumped. The water splashed up where he landed. Once his head popped out of the water he shook his shaggy hair. Droplets flying everywhere. His hair curled on the ends once it got wet. It had been about seven months of dating. Well not exactly dating but from when we met that day. I couldn’t get enough of him.

“Common! You can do it! Just jump in!” Luke yelled from down in the water.

I stood frozen on the bridge willing my legs to move. Fear isn’t being afraid of doing something but being afraid of what it will do to you. That’s what I was scared of.

“Baby just jump in. Please? I’m right here to catch you.” His voice softened. Damn that voice. I could do this. I would do this.

“Count with me!”

We counted down from three together. Right at one I launched off the bridge into the water. It was exhilarating. Luke’s arms found my waist pulling me up for air.

All I could do was laugh, “That was so fun!”

“I know!” Luke countered.

Laughing together I drew a line down his chest with my fingers. “Sorry I’m not wearing that red bikini.”

His lips crashed into mine, our tongues wrestling each other. I felt his hand dip below the waist band of my bottoms. Right there in the water was the first time we went further than just kissing.

His fingers filled me while I gripped his length. I felt him everywhere. I felt whole. Luke peppered kisses down my neck and whispered those beautiful words to me. The words I’d been feeling for months but was too afraid to say.

“Dammit Kaci I am so in love with you.”

“I love you too Luke.”

Present Day

That same voice that had just gotten rougher over the years broke through my memories.

“You look good Kaci.” I snapped my head up looking his direction. “Way too thin, but good.”

“Always so honest.” My stomach flipped.

“Yup.” Finishing his drink, he pushed back from the bar. “Well have a goodnight. I’ll see you around?” Luke nodded my way.

“Yeah.”

“Are you just visiting or...” He let the question linger.

“Uh… I actually just bought the Old Carlson Place.” Sooner or later he would know that’s where I live, he might as well hear it from me.

“Oh. Well see ya.” With that he headed for the door. I had no idea if he was disappointed or relieved that I came back.
