Seven Years Ago
This year for the back to school party the guys wanted to float the river. They were going into their senior year so they wanted to do something a little different. Groups of us piled in the beds of pickups to get hauled to the town overs river bridge. Gracey and I rode in the back of Luke’s pickup with Drew and Nick. Turning my hat backwards I made is so it wouldn’t fly out with the wind.
“Can you quit being so pretty?” Gracey gave me the side eye.
“What do you mean?”
“Oh stop you know exactly what she means.” Nick chimed in.
“Sure.” I scoffed. I didn’t see what they all did.
Gracey motioned to my braids. “Like who looks like that in a ball cap and braided pig tails? Not me.”
My best friend was drop dead gorgeous she just couldn’t see it. I blamed it on Drew always being an asshole to her. “Trust me you would look hot like this too.”
“Doubtful.”
Finally, we pulled into the gravel lot by the river bridge. I was glad we were here, Nick was stressing me out. It would probably take us three or four hours to float down back to The Gates, but I was totally fine with that.
Unloading the coolers, the boys loaded them onto their floats. I don’t know how they got all this beer and I really didn’t want to know. I highly doubted Drake’s mom would ever contribute. Luke had gotten us a two seater float with a small cooler in the middle.
Once everybody’s floats were in the water they passed around a rope making sure everyone was tied together. They didn’t want to loose someone. I swear there was at least 150 people here if not more. It was overwhelming.
Making sure to sunscreen, I ditched my clothes. Tossing the snack sticks I brought in our cooler I was ready to go. Luke’s arms snaked around my waist to my shoulders before he draped them over me.
“I can’t believe that ass is mine.” He whispered in my ear.
Laughing I spun around facing him. “All yours baby.”
Tugging up his shirt I watched his stomach ripple. I threw it in his pickup before kissing him. As I pulled back he deepened the kiss anchoring me to his side. A moan escaped me as his tongue touched mine.
“Damn the things I want to do to you.” He pulled on one of my braids.
“Trust me I know.” He was so sexy.
Finally remembering we were with a shit ton of people we made our way into the water. Luke, Drake, Drew, and Nick made sure their floats were first in line. They knew the river and didn’t want anyone getting hung up in barb wire or something else. They pulled the floats starting the slow ride down to the Gates. Once everyone was going with the stream they got in their seats.
Cracking a beer Nick yelled, “Cheers to senior year fuckers!”
A round of haulers erupted with more pops being toped. Reaching in the cooler Luke produced a drink for both of us. I wasn’t a huge fan of beer so he had some wine coolers for me. Laying my head back on the float I took in the sun.
“How did I get so lucky?” Luke’s voice cut through the noise of everyone talking.
Sitting up I opened my mouth to speak when Drake tuned in. “Can you stop with the love shit? You’re killing my buzz. Literally.”
“Shut up fucker!” Luke pushed him back. “You’re just fucking jealous.”
“Of what?” Drake cracked another beer.
“That Kaci let’s me fuck her and not you.”
I spun around to face them. “Really?”
“You guys can make out later. Fuck!” Drake laid back in his tube.
Laughing Luke pulled me in for a kiss. His tongue swept in at the same time Drake let out a loud groan. I plopped back into my seat as the two continued to bicker. Thank God ours had somewhat of a back to it.
