“Bev!” A high voice joined in the fray. “I’m so glad you’re here.”

“Vivian, do you know what happened?”

A low voice broke in between their rushed conversation, hushing them up. There seemed to be some type of bartering going on, but he was only getting a few words.

A glance over at Jonathan showed he was struggling to listen too.

Cam felt that same small wave of pity when he realized no one was shouting, “Free Jonathan,” or demanding his release.

Not that the premier jackass didn’t bring it on himself.

Finally, the door opened and Skye stuck her head in.

“You get one visitor. The ladies decided between themselves. Five minutes.”

Deputy Skye was definitely every bit by the book as he’d known her to be.

He expected his mom to step through the door, but instead, Vivian pushed a Starlight Cupcake bag into Skye’s hands as she rushed by her.

“Cam!” She hurried over to his cell and stuck her hands out to grab his. “Are you okay?”

“Vivian, I didn’t beat him with a rubber hose and then submit him to water torture while you were at the café.” Skye sounded completely offended, but closed the door and left them to it.

“I’m fine. I’m sure this is just going to be handled by the town and I’ll be out of here soon. No damage done.”

“It’s going to go on your permanent record,” Jonathan added from across the aisle.

“Yup. And one of us works for ourselves and the other one works in a role that means a background check to handle money. Hmmmmm…”

Vivian turned and glared at Jonathan. “Do you mind?”

Jonathan waved his hand in acontinuemotion and she turned back.

“I’m so mad at you and I don’t even know where to start.”

“You’re mad because I got arrested?”

“No, I’m mad because… are you going to Scotland?”

“Wow, is it up on Facebook or something?”

“I have my sources.” Vivian stuck her nose in the air and he knew there was no sense trying to figure out just who had told her.

It saved him the pain of telling her himself.

“Not until the sleigh is done. I wouldn’t leave you hanging like that.”

“You are such a jackass.”

Vivian

She could not believehe couldn't see what a huge deal this was. As if Facebook might be the problem. Or even like she might be angry he'd leave before he'd fulfilled his commitment to fix the sleigh.

What was wrong with him?

"You were just going to leave?"
