Micha: I want to talk about Arden.

He wanted to put more but kept it for when they'd meet in person.

Janek: I see. I will be free later tonight. I won't be staying in the palace. It would be too hard for me to stay in the same place as the person who took my sweet Kyree from me.

Janek: I will find a way for you to get to me.

Micha shut his eyes as he slid down the wall and brought his wings around him. His chest felt heavy as he attempted to breathe.

Janek: Here these are the rooftop lofts. Let me know which one you want and I will make sure to have everything taken care of before you return to the city.

Micha didn’t click on the link. He didn’t want that anymore. What he wanted was to be with Arden, Eldon, Bash, Gamble, and Spooky. He wanted to laugh at Gamble and Spooky’s shenanigans, watch movies with Eldon, be treated like a princess by Bash, and be held by Arden. But Micha deserved none of those things. He’d been lying to them since the moment he walked through PGD’s doors. And hadn’t stopped for a second even after realizing he was getting too entangled with all five men.

What was he supposed to do?

Micha: Okay.

He had no idea how long he sat there but the tears had long dried up and the fatigue of not sleeping all night was getting to him. Micha rested his head on his knees. His wings cocooned around him, but even with how exhausted he felt, sleep wouldn’t come to him. The moment his eyes dropped closed, he was berated with thoughts of how he was betraying Arden and the others but if he came clean and told them everything, he'd be betraying the man who saved him. It was a never-ending cycle that made him weak.

“Micha.” Bash’s voice cut through the darkening cloud of thoughts.

Micha peeked through his blue and pink feathers. Sure enough, the bear shifter squatted before him, his bright green eyes full of concern. He slowly moved his hand toward Micha as if he was a wounded animal and maybe that was exactly what Micha was.

The tightness in his stomach eased a little the closer Bash got to touching him. Micha didn’t think. He pushed all thoughts away and let his instincts make the decisions. He unwrapped his wings away from him and flung himself at Bash.

The bear shifter grunted as they went down to the floor. There was a moment of hesitation and Micha almost pulled away but Bash’s meaty arms wrapped around him. His fingers threaded through Micha’s hair and gently creased Micha’s scalp. His touch was so soft that it was breaking down Micha’s walls brick by brick.

He buried his face into the crook of Bash’s neck. The bear’s shifter facial hair tickled Micha's ear and his scent brought a smile to Micha's face. Why couldn’t he have met all of them sooner? Before he’d met his ex. Before he’d needed to be saved.

Bash said nothing as he held Micha and it was both a blessing and a curse. If Bash asked questions, Micha was certain he’d spill everything right there. But the bear shifter said nothing, just gave Micha comfort when he needed it the most.

Micha finally pulled back and looked at Bash up close. There were gold flecks in his eyes, the tell of a shifter. Micha cupped Bash’s face, categorizing every distinct feature. He’d never been so up close and personal with Bash. Their interactions always resulted in short encounters or Micha watching him when he should have been working. But there was something about the bear shifter, that most gave a wide berth, that drew Micha in. Maybe it was the way Bash always treated him like a delicate flower to cherish.

Micha leaned forward, his mind blissfully blank as he brought his mouth to Bash’s. It was featherlight, the barest of grazes over their lips but it sparked a fire inside of Micha, causing a whimper to drip from his mouth.

Bash growled and Micha felt it vibrate through him. He went still and his eyes fluttered open.

“Sorry, I won’t growl,” Bash said, tightening his hold on Micha.

Micha shook his head.

Bash’s eyebrows creased together and Micha bit his lip from smiling. He smoothed the wrinkled skin out. “I mean I like when you growl at me.” His face heated with the admission.

“But I always scare you.”

Micha stared into Bash’s eyes and really thought about it. “No, you don’t scare me.” Micha blew out a slow breath. “Growling aggressively scares me butyoudon’t.”

Bash’s eyes widened and Micha hoped he understood. He’d never been afraid of Bash, more afraid of falling for the big bear. His stupid crush for him had developed the moment Bash had growled at him. It was never supposed to be more but here he was in the bear shifter’s lap.

“If you need further proof, I um—” Micha glanced away but Bash directed his attention back to him.

His green eyes pleaded with Micha.

“I thought you were hot and I was really nervous to go up to you, and that night I asked for a drink, I had never done that before, but I wanted to talk to you.”

Bash pulled back as if Micha was insane. “Me?”

Micha nodded. If he wasn’t close to the bear shifter he might have missed the red tint to his cheeks. It brought a smile to Micha’s face.
